The idea is that the coloured puzzle piece are sorted by the pictures which has that sound in the word. They then make the sound when put together either using the black and white base or without to make it challenging. Some sounds have word puzzles (__ick, s___t) and may have the same pictures on both letters for that sound.

A game that is an alternative to flashing sounds. Cards for phase 2 - 5 (phase 4 is initial and final blends). How to play Place all the cards in a small bag. Pass the bag around the group. Each child picks a card and says the sound on their card. If the children gets the sound right they keep the card (younger children may ask a friend for help). If the child picks an ‘Oh no!’ card they have to say ‘Oh no!’ and put any cards they have won back in the bag. (They can say ‘Oh no!’ in a silly voice)

CVCC words have final blend missing and CCV/CCVC are missing the initial blends (words using sets 1-7 letters – orange, words using Phase 3 graphemes – purple) CVCC/CCCVC/CCCVCC are missing both beginning and final and finally the polysyllabic is matching the syllables to the picture.
