• This teaching resource explains the work of Professor Will May, a literature researcher at the University of Southampton, UK. He is exploring the role of mentoring in the creative industries, and he has established a mentoring scheme for young poets.
• It includes an interview with Will and offers an insight into careers in literature research. It also includes interviews with Eve, a young and aspiring poet, and their poetry mentor, Romalyn. If your students have questions for Will, Eve or Romalyn, they can send them to them online. All they need to do is to go to the article online (see the Futurum link below), scroll down to the end and type in the question(s). Will, Eve and Romalyn will reply!
• The activity sheet contains ‘talking points’ (based on Bloom’s Taxonomy) to prompt students to reflect on Will’s work and challenges them to experience poetry mentoring. Students can write their own poetry and then try teaching someone else. Do they prefer being mentor or mentee? Or they can read and examine poetry written by Eve and Romalyn.

• Emerging research shows that the human ear has the capacity to process information far better than the eye and yet, despite the importance of sound in so many aspects of our lives, its role in the interpretation of scientific data is fairly limited. Glenn McClure and is team is using advanced mathematical techniques to translate complex data sets into music - through a process called sonification.
• This resource also introduces the Artists and Writer Collective (AAWC). Through the AAWC, artists team up with scientific research teams in the Antarctic and tell their stories in imaginative ways.
