Non-Chronological Report Writing Dressed for the Weather

I used this lesson for a Year 3 class on non-chronological report writing. The children used subheadings for their paragraphs on contrasting weather environments and what would be appropriate to wear in each. This lesson worked really well because they did not need to do any further research before writing, which meant that we could focus on the features of a non-chronological report. Thanks for looking! Predict the next shape in a pattern- trains theme

This is a lesson for Early Years predicting the next shape in a pattern, it could also be useful for a lower ability Year 1 class or for introducing a new topic. The children have to spot the next shape to appear in the pattern and show which shape they think will come next. Thanks for looking! Easter Bunny Persuasive Letter Writing Lesson

(0)
I did this as one whole lesson but it could be spread out as needed. The file includes a letter from the Easter bunny stating that he is going to retire. Next to it is a writing frame for the children to analyse, looking especially at the purpose of each paragraph. On the next page (I printed them double sided) is a shared plan and letter in response. On the final page is a new letter from the 'Bunny Bandit' who has captured the Easter Bunny and the children must write their persuasive letters independently in response. Thanks for looking! Persuasive letter writing: Dear Headteacher, Save our playtimes

This powerpoint guides the children to write a persuasive letter to the headteacher to save their playtime. The powerpoint starts with a nasty letter to the headteacher trying to argue for shorter breaks. The children must discuss how they will put their side of the argument across for playtimes being essential. Includes features of persuasion and provides a simple structure for writing which can be displayed on the board. The plenary slide includes a sample letter to check for features and suggest improvements. Now also includes planning. I used this with a Year 4 class (some were very concerned that their playtimes might actually be taken away!) Thanks for looking! Silly Storytelling Game for Storytelling Week

This is the classic storytelling game of fill-in-the-blanks, fold it down and pass it on. I have included some instructions in case it is unfamiliar to you. I think it would be most appropriate for Y1-4, but my Year 4s found it hilarious. Thanks for looking! James and The Giant Peach- Depicting emotions through actions

This resource helps children to understand how the author uses actions to describe how a character is feeling. Using four short quotes from Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach, children can draw a face depicting the feeling in the box and then think about how the character might move if they feel this way. Once children have learned about Theseus and the Minotaur, this lesson guides the children through what happened next using weblinks for Mr Donn. The children write a recount from either the perspective of Dionysus (and the pirates) or Ariadne (being deserted on the island) up to when Dionysus finds Ariadne and asks her to marry him.
