Into Film have created a presentation suitable for assembly, club or classroom use that teachers and club leaders can use to shine a light on black filmmakers working in the industry today and to inspire young people to tell stories of their own using film. Included in the assembly are embedded video clips for interactive learning, featuring interviews with prominent black filmmakers and actors such as Letitia Wright from Black Panther,* Belle* and A United Kingdom director Amma Asante, director of Bliss! Rita Osei, Spectre actress Naomie Harris, screenwriter of Belle Misan Sangay and *12 Years A Slave *director Steve McQueen. Also included are a range of discussion points designed to raise important questions on diversity in the film industry and the importance of telling stories from different cultures. The assembly can be delivered in its entirety or used in sections for tutor sessions and the extension activities would be perfect for a homework task. Black Star is the British Film Institute’s celebration of the range, versatility and power of black actors on film and TV taking place nationwide and we’re delighted to be complementing their season with a programme of relevant films that resonate with our audience of 5-19 year olds. Intellectual property supports creativity, innovation, and has an important role to play in both the UK economy, and the creative industries. That is why we're committed to ensuring children and young people are fully aware of exactly what IP is, why it's important, and how it links to children's own creativity and filmmaking. A film guide that looks at Dear Evan Hansen (2021), a coming-of-age musical, based on a hit stage show about a teenage boy suffering from social anxiety who becomes an overnight internet sensation. This guide is useful for exploring topics including Performing Arts, PSHE Education and Psychology in addition to highlighting themes surrounding music, family, friendships, mental health, growing up and anti-bullying.

This immersive, exciting and varied resource will take young people on a quest to become Chopstick Warriors by teaching them about the history and handling of chopsticks. They will teach others and perform a range of challenges to perfect the art of the chopstick, then battle other competitors in school, culminating in The Rice Challenge, with the intention of being crowned Chopstick Master. Teachers are provided with a fun downloadable ‘Chopstick Challenge' resource pack that includes how to create and run a Chopstick League within their school. This is an easy to use end of term resource designed to bring the school community together with an engaging and challenging project to help celebrate the end of the school year. The activities in this resource are designed to encourage educators and young people to explore Scotland through film, focusing specifically on two central themes: Language and Identity. From classic cinema through to modern day representations of Scotland on film, the resource touches on history, myth, and culture. With the release of new film ’12 Years A Slave’ in cinemas in January the topic of slavery has once again been brought to the forefront. Into Film has talked to the film's director and cast, and in addition has selected a topic of films ‘Slavery Unlocked‘ which look at the forms of slavery that still exist today, such as human trafficking and forced labour, to encourage discussion in the classroom around the topic. To celebrate the release of Artemis Fowl on 12th June Into Film have partnered with Disney+ to create a package of free home learning resources for students aged 7-14. Inspired by the new release, our Artemis Fowl: Decoding Your World resources combine elements of English, maths and computing, and have been especially designed to support parents whose children are currently learning from home, and educators who are teaching and setting work remotely. Trolls, fairies and mythical creatures abound in Artemis Fowl, a fantastical film adapted from Eoin Colfer’s best-selling Artemis Fowl book series. Expect stunning special effects and exhilarating action as 12-year-old Artemis battles to rescue his kidnapped father from a fantasy realm. Artemis Fowl is streaming exclusively now on Disney+. This free resource includes a suite of materials that educators and parents can use to inspire students and explore key themes raised in the film. In Artemis Fowl: Decoding Your World, pupils will be introduced to Artemis through the film’s trailer and tasked with deciphering secret messages using Gnommish code from the film. Students will immerse themselves into the magical world of film and be inspired by a uniquely smart and adaptable lead character. There are four engaging home learning activities which include learning how to decipher coded messages; completing coding puzzles; character analysis through exploration of thoughts and actions and a creative writing competition. The activity sheets are supported by a home learning guide for educators and parents.

Mamie Till-Mobley might not be a name that is widely recognised but her actions following the brutal lynching of her 14-year-old son Emmett Till in Mississippi, 1955, caused a seismic cultural shift in the twentieth century and acted as the catalyst for the modern Civil Rights movement. Mamie was a mother of one and public school teacher who became a revolutionary civil rights figure in the mid-1950s and campaigned until her death in 2003. Her transformation was marked by her resilience in harnessing her grief and anger towards her son’s murderers and the corrupt justice system of the southern states of the USA, which she used to teach the whole world about the impact of racism, inequality and injustice. There are parallels with the death of Stephen Lawrence in 1993 in London and the activism of his mother Doreen Lawrence, now Baroness Lawrence of Clarendon, OBE who kept his image, story and legacy in the public consciousness through media coverage and campaigning against legal injustice.

We have produced this new resource based on the film Hairspray to complement the new Welsh National Literacy Framework for Primary schools, aimed a developing oracy, reading, and writing across the curriculum.
