A creative lesson that allows students to understand what the word parable means and why Jesus used parables to teach moral messages. The lesson has clear activities and outcomes. Students are encouraged to research a parable (A selection from the Bible are attached) and explain what they have learnt from the parable (there are a choice of activities ranging from drama to a newspaper article). Students also have the option to rewrite their own parable and give a moral message.

A PowerPoint that looks briefly at the cause of poverty and religious attitudes to it. I use a THINKRE2 textbook for students to explore Christian and Hindu beliefs about poverty (to supplement the lesson you could simply find a brief bit on Hindu and Christian attitudes). Activities are supplemented by images/ questions and discussion opportunities. I have also attached an assessment criteria, PowerPoint and writing frame for an essay in response to the question: Poverty has always been with us. Poverty will always be with us. Why should we bother?

This lesson allows students to read the Nicene/ Apostles creed and pick out key Christian teachings and keywords. I usually place students into groups to complete this task. In addition the Nicene Creed is the longest so I usually give this the more able students. Question sheets are provided to allow students to jot down their ideas. Once students have completed the various activities I allow students to create a personal creed. This lesson supplements the purple OXFORD textbook written by Reid, G and Tyler, S. Page 48-50. It also has two or three extra activities and worksheets. The lesson also comes with exam style questions and exemplars. This could serve as a great starting point to revelation. A choice of 2 styles of worksheet have been added. For one task you can print off the worksheet on the PowerPoint slide Outcomes: Must: define and give examples of different types of revelation. The lesson then looks at Shari'ah law and the death penalty with various images/ discussion activities.
