SATs-style fiction reading paper, with comprehension questions that assess inference, definition, prediction and retrieval skills. The extract is chapter 3 of The Coral Island. This is a challenging paper and ideal for students performing at above expected standard.

This resource is a tutorial and contains copies of annotated and clean copies of extracts, plans, and the lesson progress in a recording of a live model essay. This would be appropriate for tutors and teachers to set as home learning to support revising candidates and to assist with examination timing.

AQA Languge Paper 1 and Language Paper 2 extracts and lessons to support a KS4 reading of A Christmas Carol. These lessons get gradually more challenging and implicitly support AO3 for the novella. This resource is perfect for interview lessons and uses a poem and poet that is easily linked to IB Learner Profiles. It is a stand alone lesson that could be used for cover work or in preparing for GCSE unseen questions, as well as for MYP Literature and Language. The lesson can be extended and introduces intertextuality that is accessible to students, as it revolves around references to children’s fiction. I completely enjoy teaching this lesson and look forward to it as a ‘treat’!

A lesson for mixed ability GCSE poetry, viewing The Hero as an unseen poem. This lesson would work well as an introduction to WW1 poetry, unseen poetry or as a poetry analysis lesson. The lesson takes the context of the poem into consideration.
