This lesson consists of: A weekly arithmetic test where children solve addition and subtraction calculations including those with missing numbers as today’s starter. An Interactive Whiteboard introduction for both Notebook and ActivInspire flipchart revising the language of time and teaches the names and order of the months of the year. This is then extended to allow the children to recognise which months form part of which seasons. A youtube video link for distance learning introducing the starter, main part of the lesson and the AFL / Next Steps plenary. An independent task where children make a calendar to help them identify what happens in each of the four seasons. A counting game for groups of children to take in turns counting up to a target number of 20 (LA), 30 (MA) 40 (HA) using base 10 equipment and a dice. A second starter finding the value of numbers represented by tens and ones. An Interactive Whiteboard teaching introduction for both Notebook and ActivInspire flipchart building on the skill of one to one correspondence before extending this to teach grouping into tens and ones using Base 10 equipment and linked to recognising the number of tens and ones that are used to represent a number.
