(RWI) etc. Suitable for EYFS Reception and/or Year 1.

A lesson observation sheet for EYFS (Nursery and Reception). I have called this a Learning Story as it allows the observer to write down exactly what is happening with a view of recording the learning. There is an extensive bank of prompts on the sheet to make observing easy for the assistant (LAS or TA) as well as the teacher. The prompts include "Is the child interested?", "Does the child take turns?", "Does the child express needs and feelings in an appropriate way?" etc. This helps to guide the observer to spot achievements and challenges for the child. On the reverse of the sheet, the Characteristics of Effective Learning prompts are listed in a clear easy to read table for easy observing.
An observation sheet especially tailored to reading. With this sheet, you can observe the child during an adult led guided reading session or during independent child-led reading. The sheets contain an extensive range of prompts to guide the observer which makes observing quick and easy!
A sheet to record your assessment of the children in numeracy. Print this sheet twice (there are enough rows for 15 names) and use it for on-entry, term 2 and term 3 assessment. Simply fill in beside each child's name their results for numeral recognition, ability to count objects, count irregular objects and so forth. Each term's entry is on the same page to allow for progression to be seen easily.

A set of Ten-Frames including numerals to 10 to use in maths interventions. Suggested activities are included to work with children in the Reception class (EYFS).
These Ten-Frames and numerals should be printed and laminated and can be used with counters or playdough.
Ten-Frames are a fantastic way for children to understad the concept of number and quantity using concrete objects linked with numerical representation.
A letter to send home to parents for children chosen to take part in Forest School. This letter is in WORD format to enable you to edit easily. The letter informs the parents that a series of Forest School sessions are planned to take place and explains using clear simple language, what Forest School is.
This letter also contains a permission slip for parents to authorize their child to take part.
Here I have a week’s planning (4 lessons) on Wombats for Year 1 English. The planning is non-fiction literacy and is a prelude to the following weeks planning which is fiction work actually based on the story.
This planning has learning objectives, success criteria detailed descriptions for teacher input and what should be expected of the children based on 3 differentiated outcomes (high, middle and low).
The planning focuses on researching Wombats through various means, group work, use of ICT, Fact writing and the creation of fact files. Theres the opportunity to branch off researching further Australian animals or simply Australia in general.
Week 2 (Non fiction ‘The Diary of a Wombat’) will be uploaded to my TES store soon. This can be purchased seperatly or together with week 1 at a discounted price. Please follow me or email me for more information!
Here I have the 2nd week’s planning (4 lessons) on Wombats for Year 1 English. The planning is a follow up to the the previous weeks plan which was non-fiction work.

The planning focuses on diary writing and past tense verbs. This plan can be purchased alone or together with week 1.
A great starter activity for KS1 when teaching mini beasts or insects in Science. Print this resource several times, laminate and cut up the photos and hide in a tray with shredded paper. Place a tray on each table and challenge the children to work together to place the photos they find on the correct name of each mini beast. The table to complete first is the winner!
This resource is differentiated by having a brief description of some of the more difficult to identify mini beasts, such as distinguishing between the damselfly and the dragon fly, written on the card…
5 simple playdough mats numbered 1-5. Designed for Nursery and Reception (EYFS). These mats are themes with apple trees and require the child to place X number of apples (playdough) on the tree. Each mat is designed to show the required number of apples in the pictorial form as well as displaying the numeral.
Using these mats with playdough is an excellent method of teaching children about number and quantity through moving from concrete to visual and finally to numerical representation.
Here I have planned 5 lessons in Number for year 1 maths. Furthermore, the planning is in WORD to enable you to easily edit it to suit your own class/school’s planning format.
Resources are also included but where resources are from a third party (such as Twinkl), I have left a suggestion to simply download them to avoid copyright issues.

A simple writing challenge for your Reception children. This independent activity challenges the child to first locate the items on the sheet, which they have great fun doing with their friends, and then write down their name. There is guidance for letter formation included.
For best results, provide a clipboard with interesting fancy pens!
This lesson plan/ activity will guide you through having a fire with your children. It is intended for children aged 4-8 but can easily be extended for slightly elder children.
The activity follows the Forest School approach to fire making and is an ideal means to introduce fire to children. the fire making is in a Kelly Kettle (Storm Kettle) and the plan guides you through the process of getting the children involved (gathering fuel) in order to boil water for their own hot chocolate! I have found this to be one of the most enjoyable sessions taught outdoors but I recommend it only be carried out when the practitioner has complete confidence in the behaviour of the chidlren. This suits nicely towards the end of a series of Forest School sessions and feeds beautifully into cooking on an open fire, which should follow the following week as a means of extending and imbedding the learning.
A complete lesson plan for to develop creative story writing through small world play outside.
This lesson plan will guide you to setting up your environment in a way that will inspire the children and develop their imagination.
This lesson plan is for an approximate 2 hour session but has the possibility to be extended to a second session. Ideas for extension are included.
This lesson plan fosters creativity, independence, confidence building and autonomy and is excellent for developing friendships and settling children in at the beginning of term.
Fairy World is an exciting and magical lesson for all the children and adults and the introduction of the dragon at the end just makes everyone want more!
Please leave a review and/or follow me for the chance to be the first to hear about more great resources!
