GCSE Electronic Products E-Portfolio Template

(0)
Template for GCSE students. GCSE students struggle to ensure that they have included everything that they need to gain maximum marks in their controlled assessment. This E-Portfolio template can be used in one of two ways, either each individual student can edit their own copy with their own project details, alternatively this can be used as a reminder of what is needed on the page to be displayed to all students via the white board. Aimed at encouraging thorough analysis and evaluation throughout the project and to encourage independent learning this portfolio has proved to be highly effective.

Based on the Eduqas GCSE Design and Technology specification, this range of starter activities introduce some of the technical principles as described by the specification. This resource covers:- Market pull Technology Push Product Life Cycle Globalisation Consumer rights There are full instructions per slide with suggestions about how this resource can be used most effectively. There are a range of student hand-outs designed to keep activities relevant, interesting and interactive. The new far reaching design and technology specifications for GCSE students provide new challenges to teachers due to the vast range to be covered. I hope to help address these issues through my resources. Further resources linked to this course will be published over the coming days and weeks.

Microcontroller Maze Project

My students love this marble maze project as an interesting introduction into microcontrollers. Based around the Genie CO8 Microcontroller the circuit uses LDRs to identify when a marble drops down the holes in the maze. Here I have uploaded the Scheme of works, a student E-Portfolio and homework booklet, and a weekly teachers How 2 to be placed on screen. The E-Portfolio also includes full instructions for the student about what is required and where. Circuits wizard and 2D design files are available upon request at Nicoladuty@gmail.com, however the files are the wrong format to be added directly onto the site. I hope your students enjoy this project as much as mine do. Please feel free to E-Mail me to request PCB and CAD files, simply specify the files you want and the name of the project.

555 Timer Calculations - Electronic Products Astable, Monostable, Mark : Space ratio

(0)
The 555 timer has been the staple of Electronics projects in school and for the hobbyist for many years. Normally used in either Astable or Monostable, this 8 PIN little IC can be used in a wide range of projects. Most Electronic Products exams have had at least one question relating to the 555 timer over the years. As the Design Technology syllabus broadens to include aspects of a Design Technology specialist areas this resource explains the calculations used to calculate the frequency of the astable circuit and the time delay of the monostable circuit, as well as the Mark : Space ration calculations. Questions are included to test students knowledge.

This starter activity is a fun way of quizzing students on their electronics knowledge The quiz is on a PowerPoint presentation uses hyperlinks to take you to the next question if you get the answer correct and incorrect answers to a game over page. There is even a 50/50 option to take away 2 incorrect answers. This is editable so you can change the questions to suit your own means, but if you do so it is important to make sure you either edit the hyperlinks or always keep the correct answers in the same position.

Simple quiz on basic electronics principles. A good starter activity for KS3 electronics students or KS4 design technology students requiring to develop their understanding of electronics. More slides can be added with your own specific questions, just copy and paste either the tick or the cross slide and then add your own question, the animation is taken care of. The idea is that students will stand up if the answer is correct and stay sat down for incorrect answers. This physical activity gets students moving and ensures that they are all involved with no opportunity to avoid answering.
