DO NOT PURCHASE THIS RESOURCE UNLESS YOU HAVE ALREADY DELIVERED ALL LESSONS ON FLAME TESTS, PRECIPITATION TESTS FOR POSITIVE IONS AND TESTS FOR NEGATIVE IONS
This PowerPoint is to accompany the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry Core Practical lesson on Ion Tests. It contains an equipment list, guidance for students on how to approach the tests and brief methodology for students to refer to. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, Foundation and Higher tiers.
Earlier lessons on “Flames Tests, Photometry and Positive Ion Tests” and “Tests for Negative Ions” provide essential learning for this Core Practical; all are available from my TES shop.
PowerPoint (with suggested practical demo and equipment list) sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lesson on tests for negative ions. This also builds up to the Ion Tests Core Practical. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, Foundation and Higher tiers.
PowerPoint (with suggested practical tasks) sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lessons on flame tests, photometry and precipitation tests for positive ions. These resources can be used to deliver two lessons, one theory (with teacher demo) and one practical for students to embed the learning. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, Foundation and Higher tiers.
If doing the optional second lesson (class practical) you will also need to download the free worksheet “SC25a-b Testing for Positive Ions” from my shop.
PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lessons on Nanoparticles and the uses, properties and risks of nanoparticulate materials. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, Foundation and Higher tiers.
These PowerPoints will allow you to teach students the GCSE 9-1 Chemistry required content on the reactions of acids with metals, metal oxides, metal hydroxides and metal carbonates. Two full lesson PowerPoints are provided:
Reactions of Acids
Introduces the key rules for acid reactions and deals primarily with word equations, though there are some opportunities for balanced equation practice in the final task.
Acid reactions and Balanced Equations
This lesson builds upon the rules learned in lesson 1, while recalling formulae and skills learned in previous lessons, so that students learn to write balanced equations for acid reactions with minimal provided.
A homework sheet (plus mark-scheme) is then included for students to practise what they learn across the two lessons.
The resources are easy to follow for teachers, readily accessible for students and are appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers.
Other GCSE lessons (including others from the Acids and Alkalis topic) are available from my shop. They can be purchased individually or, alongside this lesson, as part of a whole-topic bundle.
PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lessons on Choosing Materials (Ceramics, Metals and Polymers) and Composite Materials. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, Foundation and Higher tiers.
You will also need to download my free worksheet “SC26a-b Materials Research sheet”.
This bundle meets all specification points needed to teach Topic 22 “Hydrocarbons”, Topic 23 “Alcohols and Carboxylic Acids” and Topic 24 “Polymers” from the Edexcel GCSE 9-1 Separate Science Chemistry course. These topics are for Triple Science classes only, they are not needed for Combined Science students.
The bundle includes seven full lesson PowerPoints and associated resources, plus my overview and equipment lists for all Year 10 and Year 11 Combined & Triple Science
Having delivered this to three classes already, my suggested teaching order is: Alkenes and Homologous Series (may take two lessons); Addition Polymerisation; Polymer Properties, Uses and Problems; Alcohols and Ethanol Production; Combustion of Alcohols Core Practical; Carboxylic Acids; Condensation Polymerisation.
I have many other GCSE lessons and bundles available so please check out my shop, OnSpecScience.
PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lessons on Condensation Polymerisation. Consistent with the Chemistry specification, this lesson focuses mainly on drawing and understanding esterification between single carboxylic acid and alcohol molecules, rather than polymer chains. However, it does extend to encompass formation of polyesters for high-end students.
The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, HIGHER TIER ONLY. Best taught after completing my lesson SC22a on “Alkenes and Homologous Series”, which provides an intro to the structures of carboxylic acids and alcohols.
**For one of the final summary tasks, you will need to get hold of Pearson Edexcel worksheet SC24c.2 “Monomers and Polymers”. Failing this, you could use slides 10 & 11 to prepare your own card sort which would substitute for the worksheet. Students’ progress can also be assessed simply using the yellow and pink box tasks on slide 9.

PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lessons on Carboxylic Acids. The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, Foundation and Higher tiers. Best taught after completing my lesson SC22a on “Alkenes and Homologous Series”, which provides an intro to the structures of this homologous series.
This bundle will allow you to teach Year 7 students the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum required learning on Ecosystems. The bundle includes six full lesson PowerPoints (containing equipment lists) plus associated resources.
There is a lot of content here and it could be easily stretched to 7 or 8 lessons if you felt it appropriate. Review the lesson resources and decide which activities are appropriate for the ability range of your students.
Suggested teaching order: Variation (continuous & discontinuous), Variation Data Analysis, Adaptations, Environmental Variation, Food Chains and Webs, Transfers in Food Chains.
I have many other KS3 lessons and bundles available. See the attached Checklist document for full details of Year 7 and please visit my shop, OnSpecScience.
