This lesson introduces ideas about the nature of Allah as all knowing and the Islamic belief in al-Qadr (predestination. Pupils will look at examples of lucky/coincidental events and discuss Allah’s influence and knowledge of the events. Pupils will discuss whether having a knowledge of everything means that Allah does not allow for human free will. Religious teaching about predestination will be analysed and pupils will reflect on their own decisions and decide how this will impact their free will. This lesson includes: Differentiated tasks. This lesson introduces Islam to pupils with an engaging starter that gets them empathising with the differences between Sunni and Shia Muslims. Pupils are exposed to modern understandings of the divide and how it originated. Their opinion on the matter is requested in a written format upon understanding the differences and seeing the conflict it still causes today. This lesson includes: Engaging Starter Activity. Pupils will debate against Stephen Fry’s argument against the existence of God based on the existence of evil and cruelty. This lesson introduces ideas about the nature of Allah (immanence and transcendence). The pupils will have to define keywords and explain their relevance and application to the Islamic ideas of Allah. Analysis of scripture is included. This lesson introduces ideas about the nature of Allah and the Oneness of Allah (Tawhid). The pupils will have to define oneness and explain its relevance and application to the Islamic ideas of Allah. Analysis of scripture is included. Pupils will understand shirk and its severity in a modern society. There is an interactive plenary which has pupils review the content in the lesson and summarise it using pop culture.
