An activity to help students develop their skills in answering extended questions in the new AQA Chemistry and Combined Science: Trilogy exams. This activity develops students understanding and ability to answer an extended question that is based on making comparisons between Group 7 and Group 1 elements. The activity guides students through understanding what the question is asking them to do, planning key words to use, their planning of the key points they need to include and then using this to answer the question. Also included in the document is a marking sheet that can be used for teacher or peer marking. This includes guidance of how to mark the answer and space for feedback to be given as well as space for the student to respond to this feedback. The sheets could be printed on A4, but I enlarge pages 1 and 2 to print A3 double sided and print the 3rd page for peer marking on A4 to then be stuck in their exercise books.

Resource to support the delivery of Required Practical 3 Investigating the Resistance of a Wire. The focus of the activity includes: AT 1 – use appropriate apparatus to measure and record length accurately. AT 6 – use appropriate apparatus to measure current, potential difference and resistance. Skills developed on the specification include: WS 2.2 – plan experiments or devise procedures to make observations, produce or characterise a substance, test hypotheses, check data or explore phenomena.
