Mummify an Apple Experiment

(0)
A full work-through for an experiment on mummifying an apple. Includes the full scientific method from hypothesis through to conclusion. Great to get some science into a topic about Ancient Egypt. I usually begin the experiment so that a month or so later, it coincides with a look at the mummification process. We also create an Adobe Spark video to explain the way the Egyptians made their mummies. Extra discussion prompts: What foods to we preserve? How and why do we preserve them? How is this similar to the process of mummification?

Flags, Countries & Continents Worksheet

(0)
This set is made up of three different worksheets. Each one has five different flags in the middle and on either side of the flags are the corresponding country and continent names (not in order). The objective is for the children to look up the country in an atlas or on the internet and then discover its flag and continent. They then need to colour the flag correctly and draw arrows to join up the flags to the correct country name and continent. See the image preview to get a better idea of how it works. It’s a great activity to get the children using book and internet resources independently. The download includes a fully editable DOC as well as a PDF.

Shape Patterns - 2D & 3D Shapes Worksheet

(0)
This worksheet involves 10 shape patterns of increasing difficulty. Children have to discern the repeating unit and then fill in the missing shapes to complete the patterns. There are a mixture 2D and 3D shapes and most of the patterns involve rotation and colour changes. LO: I can identify patterns in sequences of shapes. I can complete missing sections of patterns in sequences of shapes. This worksheet is designed to be used online as a Google Doc but could also be printed, however some of the shapes would be difficult to replicate just through drawing. I use it in Google Classroom and create a copy for each of the children to work on.

Word Warrior - Reading Board Game [CVCC & CCVC Words]

Word Warrior - Reading Board Game [CVCC & CCVC Words]

(0)
This fully editable board game adds fun for children who are learning to read. For this package, I’ve split it into two games. The first is a set of CVCC words and the second is a set of CCVC words. There are 21 spaces in which you can add any word you wish for children to practice reading. The board game is also A3 size so the words are easy to see. The idea is that 2-4 children take turns rolling the dice. If they are able to read the word that they land on then they can remain there, if not then they move back to where they just were before they rolled. This is one of my personal favourite resources, not just because both I and the children love it, but also because you can enter in any word set you like. I even play this with my son and it really encourages him to focus on pronouncing the words as perfectly as he possibly can.
States of Matter Worksheet
SherwenSherwen

States of Matter Worksheet

(0)
This worksheet is comprised of a table for children to fill in information about the three states of matter - solids, liquids and gases. The first row is for the names of each. The second row has a beaker outline for children to draw the arrangement of atoms or molecules for that particular state of matter. The third row is to describe in writing the basic properties of each state of matter and the final row is for examples of each. I use this worksheet in class to reinforce information about the states of matter. The diagrams are usually copied from the board or at least a diagram from the internet. For the rest of the content, I see how much the children can fill in independently before presenting the full set of information needed to complete the worksheet. Using the children as actual atoms is a fun addition to help explain the properties of each state of matter. For example, a group of children can stand in an orderly grid, shaking (vibrating) on the spot. Another child can act as a heat source and when they get near, the atoms start to vibrate faster before breaking off and then moving around, but only within the carpeted area. This can then continue through to gases and then reversed. It’s also a great way to introduce the names for the changes in state, which could also be added onto the worksheet with arrows showing the direction of change for evaporation, condensation, freezing and melting.
