Transition lesson for our roll over curriculum (Y9 students started the AQA GCSE Citizenship course in the last two weeks of the Summer Term). Lesson looks at the timeline of the general election 2024, looking at the manifestos, live debate and who the new prime minister is. Very discussion based/watching video clips, but works well as a transition lesson/introduction to the course. Islam Practices, aimed at AQA Spec (Year 10). The first lesson of the Five Pillars- The Shahadah. Looking at the Saudi Arabian flag for engagement. Exam question with model answer provided.

Islam Practices aimed at AQA spec (Y10). Uses examples of Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) and Mo Salah (Liverpool FC footballer) as good practice for charitable giving. 4 mark exam question with model answer.

A lesson looking at Ann Oakley and the conventional family. There are some slides looking at the effects of the pressure of living a conventional lifestyle can have have on wellbeing such as financial implications, mental health issues etc. Students complete the proforma and comprehension questions.

This lesson looks at Young and Willmott’s Symmetrical Family theory (Key Thinkers). It is evaluated using Oakley and several other sociologists. Students then plan and answer a 12 mark essay question. I have then included the progress checkpoint (low-stakes, open book mini assessment) that follows in the next lesson.

A lesson aimed at AQA Islam Practices (Y10). Looking at Ramadan and Sawm. Students create an information leaflet to give to non-muslims to support them during Ramadan. Discussion points focus on the image of Mo Salah “breaking” his fast during the Champions League Final. 5 mark exam question with model answer.

The lesson can either be taught as a market place activity or students completing as you teach each section (preferred) there are plenty of video clips and students complete a 12 mark plan (or complete the question) at the end of the lesson. Will take 2 lessons to complete if all video clips are watched.

This is a double lesson if the whole of the documentary is watched. The lesson combines looking at the changing relationship between parents and their children, and the relationships with the wider family. 4 mark exam question to finish.

This is a lesson that sets up 3 lessons (plus homework) for students to be grouped together to look at patterns, trends and contemporary issues within families. Students are given the question prompts and have to create a 10 minute powerpoint presentation and teaching activity. I give students 3 lessons with ICT facilities in 2 of them.
