Transition lesson for our roll over curriculum (Y9 students started the AQA GCSE Citizenship course in the last two weeks of the Summer Term). Lesson looks at the timeline of the general election 2024, looking at the manifestos, live debate and who the new prime minister is. Very discussion based/watching video clips, but works well as a transition lesson/introduction to the course. Planned for New 9-1 Specification Lesson looking at absolute and relative poverty. Lots of UK statistics for class discussion around what they believe constitutes poverty, causes and consequences of poverty. Students then look at Peter Townsends (1979) study into relative poverty, critique it and answer 2x 3mark questions.

Planned for the new 9-1 Specification AQA Paper 2. A lesson that looks at the Marxist approach to class. Students have a worksheet and have to go on a scavenger hunt for information on the key terms needed to explain the Marxist approach. Evaluation of the theory followed by an exam question.

It starts with a recap of key New Right ideas, followed by the cycle of deprivation and Charles Murray’s study into the Underclass. The lesson then looks at globalisation as a cause of poverty, finishing with a 12 mark question.
