Transition lesson for our roll over curriculum (Y9 students started the AQA GCSE Citizenship course in the last two weeks of the Summer Term). Lesson looks at the timeline of the general election 2024, looking at the manifestos, live debate and who the new prime minister is. Very discussion based/watching video clips, but works well as a transition lesson/introduction to the course. This lesson looks at feminism and patriarchy. The main crux of the lesson is to learn about the Key Thinker Sylvia Walby and her theory of the six patriarchal structures. Lots of UK statistics for class discussion around what they believe constitutes poverty, causes and consequences of poverty. Students then look at Peter Townsends (1979) study into relative poverty, critique it and answer 2x 3mark questions.
