Planned for AQA 9-1 Specification This lesson looks at different explanations of poverty in the UK. It starts with a recap of key New Right ideas, followed by the cycle of deprivation and Charles Murray’s study into the Underclass. The lesson then looks at globalisation as a cause of poverty, finishing with a 12 mark question.

Transition lesson for our roll over curriculum (Y9 students started the AQA GCSE Citizenship course in the last two weeks of the Summer Term). Lesson looks at the timeline of the general election 2024, looking at the manifestos, live debate and who the new prime minister is. Very discussion based/watching video clips, but works well as a transition lesson/introduction to the course. Planned for 9-1 New Specification The lesson is intended to be a research and group presentation lesson but I have included the PDF that they would search for, and they could just present using paper and speeches rather than using ICT. Depends on your group and resources that are available. Great lesson to get them to develop presentation skills, but also develops numeracy skills.

Lesson 13 looks at power distribution in the family. There are 2 video clips that look at domestic violence in the UK. Students then complete some comprehension questions.

Planned to be delivered to students studying the AQA Specification A, but easily adapted for other exam boards. I have planned all content to be delivered during an intensive Easter School session, in which the aim is for students to understand the main content of the exam. This is a mini research unit that will be taught ahead of the units (after the introduction unit). It should take approximately 11 lessons to go through the basic research methods. BTEC National Level 3 Unit 1 Exam This lesson gives an overview of genetic predisposition and susceptibility. It also looks at pregnancy impacting fetal development and alcohol fetal syndrome. Students are then put into groups to research genetic conditions and feedback as a class.

BTEC National Unit 1 Level 3 Looking at housing conditions and how this can impact PIES. There is an hour documentary and worksheet at the end of the lesson which is optional.

BTEC National Unit 1 Level 3 This lesson looks at how income can impact a persons development. There is teacher input with regards to absolute and relative poverty, considering how redundancy can impact a person’s wellbeing and looking at social class. The lesson finishes with a 6 and a 10 mark exam question, with modelled answers for peer reviewing. This lesson was taught in a 100 minute lesson, so may provide enough content for 2 lessons if your periods are shorter than mine.
