Fractions of Numbers Lesson on Powerpoint

(0)
Exercises involving fractions of numbers (e.g. 2/5 of 240) that can first be discussed as a class leading into paired work. The powerpoint discusses the formulas used for working out fractions of numbers and also touches on the point that, when dealing with fractions, X and OF mean the same thing. To finish with, plenary-wise, there is a task that children can complete (either in pairs or individually) geared to their level confidence at this particular point. Together with good quality questioning, this should prove to be useful resource across Key Stage 2 (particularly in Years 5/6).

Identifying Different Clause Types Worksheet - Year 6 GPS.

(0)
Worksheet designed for GPS practise in year 6. I have noticed that children often confuse themselves when asked to circle or underline clauses or just conjunctions (often underlining the whole clause when just the conjunction was asked for). This practise sheet should help as a revision exercise in the build-up to the GPS SAT paper.

Reading and Interpreting Bar Graph Worksheet for Greater Depth Year 6

(0)
Useful tool for reasoning practise in Year 6. Includes a hand-drawn bar-graph for interpretation (best done with a ruler). Also useful for identifying children who are not counting from the correct place and producing erroneous answers. Exercise also includes a second sheet where children need to identify different quantities on a speedometer and a scale. This will require some decimal conversion requiring division and multiplication by 1000 (grams to kilograms and vice-versa).

Interpreting Line Graphs Exercise to Show Understanding Year 5/6 (diff)

(1)
An exercise where children will have to study two sets of temperature data produced in Excel. They will need to interpret this data and answer questions relating to difference, negative numbers in context, more than, less than etc. A good task to demonstrate current understanding and track progress in data handling. Also a useful exercise in the run-up to the SATs as reading line-graphs and interpreting negative numbers in context is often present.

Year 5 Arithmetic revision paper.

A good assessment tool that covers much of the arithmetic content from the National Curriculum for Year 5. Can also be used to assess entry level at the beginning of Year 6 and together with the Year 6 assessments can be ideal for showing progress throughout the year. The test is set out in a very similar format to a SAT paper and all answers are included on the same page for ease of marking.

An arithmetic paper designed for year 6, offering a wide range of questions from across the year 6 curriculum and highly compatible with the calculations your pupils will be confronted with in their SAT paper. Answers are included at the back - all on one page for ease and speed during marking. A much cheaper alternative to using pre-printed specimens and a very useful tool to assess progress and identify misconceptions.

Identifying Subordinate Conjunctions and Clauses (GPS Revision)

(0)
An exercise children can do in pairs, groups or individually based on identifying subordinate clauses and conjunctions. I find that children often get confused when asked to underline either clauses or the conjunctions. This is a good exercise to get them used to what the vocabulary is referring to.
