Activities which will suit literacy for biology, or general literacy. Or for when you need a few minutes... Brain gym, match-up, true or false, design, discussion, look and remember... I have sourced some of the basics from the net and done exercises around them. Hope it will be useful. I think this will suit years 5,6, 7.

Activities around bullying, including a warmer, 'scenario' cards for students to comment on or act out; comment cards for pair work and role play, with pyramid of importance activity; match-up activity on types of bullying and on what makes a bully; suggestions for dealing with bullying tick lists and a case history with activities. The activities are suitable for pair and group work. Before approaching each of these activities, you can ask students to come up with their own ideas. I did this with year 7, on a 'conflict resolution' day.

This is a brain gym type activity. The students are given a description and they must guess the word from the clue. 13 slides, going through the alphabet twice. The first section is easy and the second section has harder clues. Answers fly in at the end of each box.

Take a basic plot and build it up into an outstanding lesson, with your students producing a piece of writing at the end. No resources are needed. Of course, you can produce resources to complement the lessons if you want. I have provided one differentiated question sheet which would be useful for EAL students. Various exercises, including one on open and closed questions, and ideas provided at the end. You could use it as reading practice, or with older students, as a model for a tale with a moral.

Urban legend, adapted from the internet. The story is on the first slide, then there are various activities: visuals for Splat, or Q &A session; true or false/put the story in sequential order/guidelines for a hot seat and ideas on how to teach the story. My aim is to get the students to produce a recount.

Eleven slides with maths activities related to 'Macbeth'. These are useful as starter or fun activities. I have varied the maths language; the maths activities are not difficult. The answers are provided and fly in.

There are two sets of 11 boxes with a short paragraph. In pairs, the students discuss which of each pair is the best paragraph and why. They can 'mix and match' and create their own version. Next, they match the 11 paragraphs up to the pictures and put them in sequence to tell the basic storyline. I have taken the box layout and pictures from the internet.

This is a worksheet on everyday terms which can be used in probability. I prepared this when one of my students said he didn't know what 'certain' meant. I have also uploaded a ppt with the same language which can be presented as a game of Splat! or a card sort activity.

This is a ppt with basic information about the main candidates. The description comes first, then the names fly in, giving your students a chance to name the candidates. There are some tasks, including a true and false activity. Lots of images to promote discussion.

I went on a course called 'Grammar for Writing.' The idea is that you teach the grammar, use the correct terms, but disguise the fact that you are teaching grammar. In this ppt, I aim to teach adverbs by asking the students to supply the opposite terms.

There are six shopping lists. What can students deduce about the people's personalities? On page 2, there are some prompts and a gap fill activity as differentiation.

There are match-up activities at word and sentence level, punctuation and paraphrase exercises as well as mini-biographies of famous scientists. Language activities include making comparisons and the passive voice in science. The topics, while science-based, are of general interest. These make great starter activities.
