For several years I worked with Easylearn publishers, developing resources for children struggling with English and Maths. I am one of the creators of the Froggy Match-it phonics app, which helps beginner readers to learn to read and spell effectively.

Start Making Notes helps to develop a range of comprehension and note-taking skills, and contains interesting information texts with writing frames for pupils to record key points. It is aimed at KS1 children, including less-able readers. The sheets encourage effective comprehension: accurate close reading to understand the text, and search reading, to locate the specific information required. These 10 free worksheets cover several phonic skills: cvc words; words ending in -ck, -ll, -ss, -ng; sh and ch; and various long vowel phonemes, e.g. ee, oa, ar and oo etc. The sheets were designed to accompany the Froggy Match-it phonics app at levels 1 to 4, but can be used by any children learning phonics. The pdf consists of 10 worksheets, each with the same format. Children have to identify the odd one out, often a word or picture with a different medial vowel sound, and then write their own words with certain sounds in them.

The two Money Books complement practical money work and are excellent for use as consolidation material when pupils are learning to solve problems involving money. This book looks at recognising, sorting and counting coins, using and calculating amounts of money up to 10p, finding exact sums to pay for items up to 10p, and giving change to 10p. There is a wide range of interesting tasks to achieve understanding. Reading is kept to a minimum but important mathematical vocabulary is included. The three Read and Think books encourage poor readers, especially older pupils, to read sentences and simple texts and understand what they read. Book 1 concentrates on short, simple sentences. Pupils must understand the sentences they read in order to perform the tasks and this ensures text comprehension. The 25 sheets contain a variety of tasks which appeal to a range of pupils, including older, poor readers. Pupils are encouraged to deduce, infer, and interpret information and events.
