Dinosaurs Before Dark Grammary & Phonics Read Aloud Guide by Holly Hawley is licensed under a .
If you enjoy using novels in your classroom small reading groups, or for homework than this resource was made just for you! There is a little back story into why I started creating this product.
My curriculum director popped into my classroom and told me I was unable to use novels in my reading enrichment group because they weren't being used to go "deep enough" into the text in preparation for my kids to enter 3rd grade. My students were crushed and so was I. I wanted to continue to use these novels while meeting the needs my district required.
This resource will allow your students to continue reading those novels you LOVE to get through each year WHILE targeting your VOCABULARY and TEXT BASED EVIDENCE needs.
This resource includes:
* TEXT BASED EVIDENCE comprehension questions for each chapter
* INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK pages for your students to work through the VOCAB
for each chapter
* a GLOSSARY that can be used inside the notebook or just for teacher purposes
* vocabulary ASSESSMENTS for each chapter with ANSWER KEYS
* vocabulary POCKET CHART cards for the teacher to use as a reference
* WORD SEARCH with ANSWER KEY
The text based evidence component has about 2 questions per chapter. The students will read a sentence and will support this statement from the text by finding the evidence and citing the page number.
I hope this resource is as useful to you and helps challenge your class in preparation for the following grade level or just getting ready for those state tests hiding around the corner.

The Sorcerer's Stone Grammar and Phonics Read Aloud Guide by Holly Hawley is licensed under a .
My kids can NOT get ENOUGH of non-fiction. My classroom has various non-fiction books that are out throughout the course of the year and those are always the books the kids are BEGGING to get their hands on. I love when my students are reading something non-fiction and they come running up to me saying, "Did you know...?!"
I always feel like I am scrambling to expand on the animal or theme behind the Magic Tree House series and want to add a non-fiction elements to the unit. I stopped and realized...this is what I should have been doing ALL along! This is not at all tied into the MTH series but could very easily be an additional resource used in any MTH book that includes the coral reef. (Obviously, this is could be used as a stand alone unit or any other book that has a tropical ocean theme.)
What you get in this bundle is a fantastic way to check your students fluency, introduce new vocabulary, reinforce text features, comprehension, and progress monitor.
Included in this resource:
* KWL chart
* 2 interactive notebook pages
* 9 fact cards and students own fact card (coral reef, sea snakes, sea turtle, manatee, sea sponge, sea star, octopus, crab)
* vocabulary cards (with and without definition)
* Compare/Contrast
* ABC Order Practice
* Unscramble vocabulary word practice
* Coral Reef flow chart graphic organizer
* Coral Reef report page
* Surfing Flipbook
* Sea turtle, Sea star, Octopus, and Crab Diagram (with and without labels and labeling worksheet practice)
This set is perfect for small reading groups, enrichment groups, RTII practice, homework, or even your own unique classroom needs!

This unit is all about the Asiatic Lion. I like being able to engage my students in these research projects during our ELA block. I can expose them to challenging vocabulary, begin research projects and encourage their writing, while also introducing them to simplistic oral presentations.
