dh2119dh2119

Pythagorean Triples Project

(0)
This is an investigation into Pythagorean triples. Pupils will discover more triples, and also investigate using algebra to get a general solution. During the project they will learn to appreciate the value of working generally with algebra to find all solutions. Skills used: - Pythagoras (of course) - Fractions, including adding fractions - Algebra Full solutions included.
Tally Marks Around the World

Tally Marks Around the World

(0)
A fun activity to practice using simple tally marks, investigate a few other systems, then make up their own. Works especially well with low-ability classes, who all like making up their own tally systems.

Polygons

(0)
This is a 2-page write on worksheet that tests these basic skills: - Lines of symmetry - Names of 2D shapes - 2D shapes that can be convex and non-convex Pupils can write directly on the sheet. Full solutions included.
Speed Worksheet

Speed Worksheet

(0)
A series of questions testing speed calculations, which are the ones pupils find hardest in DST. Full solutions provided.
2D Geometry investigation - Corners of a Rectangle
dh2119dh2119

2D Geometry investigation - Corners of a Rectangle

(2)
This is an investigation for the whole class to do at the same time, investigating the seemingly simple idea of the four corners of a rectangle. It will force pupils to get out of the simple thinking that every rectangle has to be lined up with the co-ordinate axes, with a horizontal base and vertical sides. Can be done visually, or for more able pupils with algebra and straight lines. Full solutions included.
Extension - Centre of a triangle (revises median, perp bisector, altitude)

Extension - Centre of a triangle (revises median, perp bisector, altitude)

(3)
A Power Point presentation investigating the not-so-obvious question of where the centre of a triangle is. Useful to revise and motivate some of the line work in e.g. Higher Maths Starts with the centre of other shapes (e.g. circle - easy) before introducing the main candidates for the centre of a triangle. These are where the medians, perpendicular bisectors, and altitudes meet. But there are also many other centres. And what about quadrilaterals, or 3D shapes?
Binomial Theorem, Partial Fractions, Complex Numbers
dh2119dh2119

Binomial Theorem, Partial Fractions, Complex Numbers

(1)
Three homeworks and a set of extended questions on the topics of Expansions with the Binomial Theorem Using Partial Fractions Complex Numbers, operations, polynomials, Argand diagrams and De Moivres Theorem All provided with comprehensive solutions
Simple percentages worksheet #2
dh2119dh2119

Simple percentages worksheet #2

(5)
This is a free-standing resource on simple percentages It involves questions like 50% of 24 up to 60% of 20 and 25% of 24. It's taken from a Murder Mystery Package I wrote hence it includes a small riddle element at the end. There are two levels of difficulty (A is easier than B) that both have the same solution. Full solutions included.

Addition and Subtraction of Whole Numbers worksheet

(2)
This is a free-standing resource on addition and subtraction of whole numbers. It involves additions like 12 + 29 or 145 - 56 It's taken from a Murder Mystery Package I wrote hence it includes a small riddle element at the end. There are two levels of difficulty (A is easier than B) that both have the same solution. Full solutions included.
Higher Maths Clinic- Sequences, Functions, Logarithms, Circles

Higher Maths Clinic- Sequences, Functions, Logarithms, Circles

(0)
A bumper set of revision questions on the topics of sequences, functions, logarithms and circles, presented in the style of a ‘clinic’ where pupils can get help for their medical maths problems. When I last used this for revision I printed each one in A3 and put them on tables for pupils to attempt in groups. **Update ** A colleague has written out full solutions which I’ve now added. Correction #1: Sickly Sequences Q4 the first sequence definition should end ‘+2’ instead of '-2’ Correction #2: Vicious Circles Q4(a) the tangent line should be ‘2x+3y=0’
Higher Maths - Differentiation Homework
dh2119dh2119

Higher Maths - Differentiation Homework

(0)
