Assessment for the NEW Welsh Curriculum 2022

(0)
Currently there is no cross-Wales formal assessment, this leaves a question as to how learners will be able to transition between schools and phases without settings having knowledge of the learners prior attainment. The attached assessment program is a whole school, whole of Wales program that will enable assessment and knowledge to be available with a high degree of accuracy. This assessment program was specifically created to assess the learners ability to complete a task, allowing the teacher to assess each learner on their own ability not arbitrary statements or levels that are interpreted differently between phases, schools and authorities . Developed in line with current thinking it promotes individual achievement and encourages learners to acknowledge their own strengths in each and every task they achieve. Designed to work with all learners including ALN, gifted and talented, EOTAS and EAL.

Good Practice in the Bilingual/Trilingual Classroom - Powerpoint

(0)
Useful for Inset. Training Powerpoint to support all staff in creating and developing resources to support learning of their area. For all Staff Used to train hundreds of Teachers and Support staff in many schools across the UK. Whilst teaching in London I had classrooms where many learners were emerging or new language learners . It quickly became evident that they needed to learn the language of the school quickly as exam were important and they needed to access them. Therefore I introduced a new method of communicating where you take what the learners already knows in their own language and just convert the words. This can run alongside the provision for EAL where they learn the language. Our child had been taught in Welsh and struggled with English but no help was given even though other languages like Hindi and Greek were catered for. I knew she already knew words in Welsh she just needed to learn the equivelant in English.

Tell the Time Turkish and English - Booklet

When I started teaching over 30 years ago I was introduced straight from Wales to a multilingual classroom and to be honest I didn’t know what to do. I believe in Equality for all so started making my own resources. Being Welsh I am used to seeing things in two languages so it feels normal to me and I know that depending on your fluency you either read one, two or both. This booklet supports learning the time. It can be used in classrooms or on a one to one basis. there are excercises inside it for the learner to complete. I had students telling me " I am being treated as though I know nothing but I learnt this in my old school. I just don’t know what your word for it is". After a while my students steamed ahead as they were using their prior learning rather than going back a step and relearning everything, and just putting a new word to it. This equality of language meant mine and other teachers who used this system effectively raised learning and assessment as well as more importantly happy students.

I believe in Equality for all so started making my own resources. Being Welsh I am used to seeing things in two languages so it feels normal to me and I know that depending on your fluency you either read one, two or both. This booklet develops those themes and concentrates on the maths classroom. the main languages are Somali/English. I had students telling me " I am being treated as though I know nothing but I learnt this in my old school. I just don’t know what your word for it is".
