Education Guru passionately believe that science is one of the best ways to engage children in learning. Our approach is to relate science to everyday life and have developed strategies, ideas and tools to encourage kids to ‘Work Scientifically’. We also believes that science should be enjoyable. We use interactive games, imaginative role plays and creative projects to inject a big dose of fun into our resources to give teachers the skills and tools to do the same in their classrooms.

This resource has been designed to help bring creativity and the everyday science into your lessons by using stories and poems to enthuse your children. It is divided into year groups and can be purchased per year group, by key stages or as a whole school pack. Each year group has five detailed lesson plans with a story or poem for each of the topics. In years one and two where there are only four topics, an extra lesson has been added for one of the topics. Some of the lessons have more than one activity linked to the story and this can be used for an extended lesson or future lessons depending on how much time there is for the science lesson. This pack is for the whole school. It can be used in any country to support the use of poems and stories in science lessons.
For those of you that are used to using stories and poems then this resource will hopefully expand your collection and for those that are new to teaching in this way then the resource will hopefully be the springboard to explore further poems and stories yourselves in the future. There may also be some new ideas for teaching science such as role plays and models that can be used in other science topics.
A bonus of using the written word is the cross curricular links to other subjects such as Geography, History, DT and of course Literacy which are mentioned in the lesson plans when appropriate.
Education Guru have created a resource bundle that not only tracks each child’s achievements in their year group’s science but also shows you how these dovetail into the Interim Teacher Assessments that the Year 2 and Year 6 teachers have to report on. This handy tool can also help you, as a teacher, to understand progression in science, identify any gaps in your children’s knowledge and working scientifically skills and help you to differentiate.
