I have created a step by step guideline in order to create a button hole sample. I have included a list of all of the equipment you would need too. This is a great way to get students to experiment with construction techniques in Textiles. All resources are on PowerPoint presentations so you can edit as you wish. I have also included step by step that is all one sheet too which you can give to each of the students to follow themselves. Great way to encourage independent learning.

NCFE - Craft - Success Criteria - Unit 1, 2 and 4

(0)
I have broken down unit 1, 2 and 4 completely and created success criterias for each unit. Each success criteria corresponds to the assessment criteria set by NCFE and explains how to lay out the work, what needs to be incorporated, an example of what it should look like and even has sentence starters for differentiation. This resource i created helped me so much and it allowed students to work with more confidence and be able to move to and from each success criteria. I have also included a checklist for each of these units and more detailed differentiated questions that students will need to answer.

This lesson covers what each component does and then goes on to show students how to create a button hole on the sewing machine. It includes a step by step with photos and captions on how to do this. There is also a comprehensive resource included for the do now, how garments use these components and a place to attach the button sample they create.

Textile Techniques - Block Printing Lesson

I have attached my whole lesson for the technique of Block printing. This technique can be done with both KS3 and KS4 students I have attached the powerpoint that I use which has a Do Now activity, lesson objectives, examples of block printing outcomes. It then has a slide that has all of the equipment you will need listed and health and safety considerations. This powerpoint also has reflection questions and plenary questions at the end. I have also included a worksheet that students can complete after they have finished experimenting with this techique. On this worksheet there is a a box asking them to write down the equipment they used, the method of the technique and then to reflect on their learning. They also have to think and write down what the advantages and disadvantages of this techinique is.

How to make a tote bag - step by step and pattern

(0)
Now this is one of my most successful projects that I do with Year 9 DT. In 9 weeks students learn how to make a totebag from stratch using the pattern and instructions. This has increased my uptake for textiles at GCSE and I tend to have a lot of students wanting to come and work on their totebag outside of lesson because of this project. All you need to do is print the pattern on to A3 paper and it is ready to use. Print as many as you need for each student. Then print out the instructions (step by step) and they are all able to follow it to create their tote bag. I use calico fabric for the tote bag as its the cheapest and most similar to a canvas bag. Choose which ever fabric you wish to use. I also get them to embroider onto the tote bag a design on a protest movement/value that they believe in (but you can choose what you want them to embroider) Any questions on this, feel free to comment and I can help but it quite self explanatory :)
