Gettysburg Address Escape Room Activity: The Gettysburg Address Escape Room will take students on a secret mission around the classroom! This escape room has students decode interesting facts about the Gettysburg Address, Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War. This is the perfect resource to introduce a famous historical speech in a fun way! The activity includes modern, easy to understand translations of Lincoln’s speech. The Gettysburg Address Escape Room has students walking around the classroom breaking codes. Students will complete a short formative that corresponds to the readings. This will ensure they are reading the content, not just solving the puzzles. The codes include ciphers, Morse code, cryptograms and a final 4 digit code based on the decoders/clues. Each clue and code is different. The codes require students to think differently to decipher or decode them. Some codes are easier than others. Some codes require critical thinking to determine what a letter/symbol stands for. Each code will reveal interesting facts or an analysis about the Gettysburg Address. The use of secret code will keep your students engaged while competing to find the final code. Students can report the final code to you. If you wanted to, you could purchase a 4 digit lock that you program, but it is not necessary at all! No props needed!! This is a NO PREP, PRINT & GO Activity! The best age range for this resource is 8+. Please look at the preview to determine if this resource works for your age group. Younger students may need some help with some of the more difficult codes. You can use the pre-labeled clues or you can challenge older kids to choose/find the decoder that works for each of the clues. In addition to learning or reinforcing the subject matter, my escape rooms encourage teamwork and critical thinking. As a “timed” challenge, students will be engaged from beginning to end. Back to School Doodle Stations Activity-About Me Icebreaker: This super-colorful Back to School doodle activity is a great way to learn about your students and build community. It’s a fun, creative, colorful, collaborative “All About Me” icebreaker activity! This the perfect Back to School activity that allows students to visit stations, color, follow directions, use their creativity and learn about their classmates. The Back to School “About Me” doodle coloring page is set up for six different stations. At each station students answer a question. The answer to their question will involve colorful codes. For example, if they have a dog, they may color in red. If they have a bird, they may color in the doodle with green. If they have a cat, they may color in purple stripes. Each answer has it’s own color code. Colored pencils, crayons, or markers will be needed to complete this activity. This resource will work for multiple grade levels or subjects! Students will color in answers about their family, hobbies, food, pets, job ideas and colors. This product includes: Teacher Directions 8 Zen-Doodle Design Templates to choose from (See preview for examples) Classmate color analysis worksheet- “Meet my classmate” Grouping Cards (optional) Extra Station Cards so you can write your own questions/answers (optional) I like to make multiple copies of each design and let the student choose which design they want to work with. When the activity is finished, I collect the designs and display their art on the bulletin board for Open House or Parent Night. The end result is a fun, colorful bulletin board idea, a chain link display, 3D cubes or art to hang around the room. Icebreaker Fun: After students finish the six station rotation they can present their colorful doodle artwork to a classmate. The classmate will then analyze or decode the colors to learn about their new friend. A worksheet is provided for students to fill in what they learned about two to four classmates based on the colors used in their doodle.

Team Building Escape Room: The Team Building Escape Room will take students on a “treasure hunt” around the classroom! This Team Building Escape Room has students decode fun puzzles using teamwork and critical thinking while trying to beat the clock. This is the perfect resource for back to school activities, team building, end of year, ice breakers or any time! This team activity can be used in any subject and multiple grade levels! The Team Building Escape Room has students walking around the classroom solving puzzles. Students come up with a team name (directions included) and embark on a journey to find the gold. The puzzles include: Puzzle 1: Cryptogram of Nursery Rhyme Puzzle 2: Word Maze about Teamwork Puzzle 3: Visual Puzzle Puzzle 4: Lock Math Problem (basic math- they will need to find 1/3 of 9) Puzzle 5: Rebus Name that Song Puzzle 6: Logic Puzzle Also included are team building teacher prompts to start a conversation about their teamwork. Students fill in their answers on the treasure map to reach the gold before time runs out. Not all teams will make it to the end. Do your students have what it takes to solve the puzzles in time? Each puzzle is different and requires logic, reason and critical thinking. There are six puzzles for each team to decode. You choose what works best for you. You could do groups of up to six. Some puzzles are easier than others. The use of codes and puzzles will keep your students engaged while competing to find the gold. Students will report the final treasure map of answers to you. The Growth Mindset Scavenger Hunt can be used as an introduction or review activity. You can use the Growth Mindset Scavenger Hunt activity as task cards, a scavenger hunt or both. This is the perfect Growth Mindset activity for Back to School, End of the Year or anytime in between! The Scavenger Hunt is designed so that students must visit each of the ten fact cards at least two times! That means they have to read the small passage or skim for details twice!
