This lesson is aimed at years 9-10 Sociology students studying Research Methods. The lesson focuses on Official Statistics and encourages students to consider contemporary examples and the strengths and weaknesses to this method. There is one exam question with a model answer.

This lesson encourages students to build upon knowledge of Feminism from previous lessons from Module 1: Key Concepts. The lesson has several activities which encourage students to think about the female role, sexism and oppression within the family unit. There are a selection of activities, some of which can be completed for homework. The aim of this lesson is to prepare students for future lessons on conjugal roles.

GCSE Sociology Eduqas Exam Board: Longitudinal Studies This lesson is aimed at Eduqas GCSE Sociology students. The aim of this lesson is to introduce the concept of longitudinal studies and consider the strengths and weaknesses. There are two exam questions included as well as engaging activities relating to the ’ Up series’ and the ‘Children of the 90s’ study. Exam questions relate to the C1 paper. Progress check pages have questions and answers in the notes. Any links to appropriate websites and clips can be found in the notes.

This resources is aimed at GCSE Eduqas paper 2. It introduces students to Functionalism in relation to inequality and role allocation. It’s a starter lesson which encourages students to begin essay planning using interactive note books. The lesson includes model paragraphs to help develop essays. You will need scissors, glue, exercise books, colouring pens and a copy of Eduqas’s grade mark scheme (details can be found in notes on slide 8- MS is optional).

Aimed at year 11 students who are preparing for GCSE revision. Students are encouraged to reflect on their own learning and to RAG topics from the C1 paper. Students should then think about the next step. What do they need to do to make sure they know core topics?

As Eduqas teachers are aware, it's pretty difficult to cover and teach all areas of life during lesson time. Last year, I covered the main areas of life (Education and Work) and encouraged students to research the other areas independently. The Power Point attached instructs and encourages students to research alternative areas of life using resources available to them. You can do this in lesson time, but I would recommend setting this as homework. My students were given interactive templates to help them on their way. See attached.

This resource is a scaffolding guide to help students structure and answer the 30 mark exam question. The resource has hints, tips and sentence starters. My students used this template to help them with revision for the very first 2017 examination. ALL students scored between 23 and 29 out of 30 on this question. Not bad for the first cohort.

This resource will take up a whole lesson. The aim is to introduce students to essay technique using the PEEL model and AO skills. It's an easy to use step by step guide. By the end of the session, students should have a deeper understanding of the exam criteria and feel more confident structuring and independently writing a 15 mark answer. There is a PDF and word document attached. The word document is there for you to edit as you wish. You may prefer to use a different exam question to the one suggested. There is also a list of sample exam questions to consider and use in your lessons. One list is a word document. This is for you to add to the list as you wish.

This is a full lesson introducing the concept of socialisation with a focus on primary socialisation and the family. The lesson aims to be interactive with lots of thinking activities which encourage independent learning. One slide makes reference to the TV show Super Nanny. A clip from the TV show has been included, but you could use other episodes. You will find sample exam questions with model answers embedded with in the slides. The exam questions are based on the GCSE Eduqas Specification. However, other exam boards can use the slides, but you will need to change questions accordingly. Progress checking questions are embedded throughout. Answers to the questions can be found within the notes. You will need scissors, glue, mini wipe boards, pens and access to the internet to deliver this lesson.

This Power Point is a bit of fun and a break from our everyday curriculum. This resource can be used with lower year groups as a marketing tool, or as part of Sociology club, or with GCSE year 9 groups. The slides aim to encourage students to think about the representation of gender, sexuality, ethnicity and the body in relation to Halloween. Additionally, there are a few slides which prompt students to focus on the agencies of socialisation and their role in teaching norms and values surrounding Halloween. The Power Point is not designed to be taught in one lesson. Instead, you can pick and select the specific areas you would like to teach and deliver (this includes gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity or body and mental health). Due to this, the lesson objectives are quite vague and generic. You may wish to change these to suit your requirements. There are tasks embedded within the slides with supporting notes. There are progress check slides and visual and discussion based activities. Content and activities are summarised below: Agencies of Socialisation: Discussion concerning the 'deviant' norms and values encouraged within AOS during Halloween. Interactive notebook activity. See Word Doc. Gender activity: Silly to 'sexy'. Female identity and the Halloween costumes. Students create age appropriate costumes aimed at an 8 year old. Sexuality: Discussion based on 'heteronormativity'. Race and ethnicity: Discussion based on racist Halloween costumes. Followed by a literacy based activity where students write a letter of complaint to a Costume Company. Body and mental health: Students focus on a contemporary debate and create a promotional campaign. There are many more topics we can explore as Sociologists, but this resource is a nice little starting point, encouraging higher thinking skills and the development of sociological awareness. AO2 skills are tested throughout. Have fun with it.

This lesson is aimed at the GCSE Eduqas course but can be adapted and used with AQA. It is interactive and encourages students to reflect on their own identity. Students will need to bring to school their own childhood photos to participate in the main activity. You will also need magazines (perhaps catalogues with images of toys in), scissors and glue. The lesson will introduce students to Oakley's key terms: Verbal appellation, Manipulation, Different Activities and canalisation.

This lesson introduces students to Functionalist perspectives on the Family. The Power Point relates to the Eduqas exam paper, with reference to some exam questions on the final slide. However this resource can be used and adapted to fit other exam boards such as AQA. The resource also includes several activities including the use of interactive note books. This resource contains 10 work sheets with different activities for subject teachers to leave with cover staff. You may wish to use these as homework activities or extension tasks.
