Lesson looking at the blast furnace and using displacement to extract the iron. Includes the experiment using a matchstick to extract iron (instructions in the lesson). Has a fantastic (in my opinion) plenary using Lego characters to answer questions. The students collect different strips of paper with different questions and Lego parts to construct a Lego character, the students loved it! DIfferentiated questions throughout. Learning Objectives: Describe the process of extracting iron Describe how carbon is used in a blast furnace to remove metal from its ore Evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of the process
