Reflection and rotation symmetry

Reflection and rotation symmetry

(11)
9 examples of each to show on whiteboard. Pupils write down (on personal whiteboard?) how many lines of symmetry/order of rotational symmetry. Then reveal answer on IWB. Rotations are 'animated'. Revision/plenary exercise?

Sequences - using/finding nth term - scaffolded

(11)
Use nth term rule and find nth term for linear expressions (2-sided worksheet for each). Worksheets scaffolded. First with missing terms and second to find multiplier and difference between that times table and the sequence given. Not a lot different to exercises in books but hopefully attractive and less intimidating (limited number of questions!) for a lower ability group. (12/7/16) Answers uploaded for finding terms worksheet

Substitute in simple formulae

(8)
'Quick' worksheet with perimeter of rectangle and pentagon, area of parallelogram and angles in a triangle. Four questions on each. For brighter Y6 (starting algebra) but also for lower ability secondary. (12/7/16) Answers uploaded
Solve equations with two unknowns

Solve equations with two unknowns

(8)
Set out algebraically (rather than using picture puzzles). Finding solutions with limits (eg. only positive integers). Challenge questions are (implicitly) simultaneous. Used with bright Y6 group. (12/7/16) Answers uploaded

Mean - missing data and combined data

(7)
Find the missing number given mean and other numbers. Find mean of combined data sets. Could use with mini-whiteboards as each step animated. (16/6/14 added WALT and starter)

Reflections in named lines: KS3 / KS4 Maths

(9)
First worksheet is a starter getting learners to name lines like x=2 and y=1. (It is assumed this has been covered previously.) Second worksheet asks students to draw reflections in named lines. (It is assumed they have drawn reflections in general before.) (12/7/16) Answers uploaded for reflections worksheet

Trial and improvement - square and cube roots

(6)
Relatively simple, structured worksheet on using trial and improvement to find square and cube roots to 1 decimal place using second d.p. (Can ignore latter and just find closest to 1 d.p.) 7/3/14 Slightly improved versions replacing originals and another new 'problem'.
Dividing in ratio

Dividing in ratio

(3)
Powerpoint demonstrating how to divide sums of money in ratio and accompanying scaffolded worksheet with (fairly) straight-forward examples to work out. (10/2/14) Second, slightly harder, worksheet added. (12/7/16) Answers uploaded
Indices, powers, roots

Indices, powers, roots

(3)
Fairly basic set of 15 Qs to be used with flashcards, whiteboards etc. Covers integers with indices and algebraic expressions. Add/subtract rules. Useful as revision or building up to add/sub simple powers.

Two main slides showing visually place value adjustment when multiplying/dividing by 10, 100, 1000. Plus puzzle starter. You may just want to use the two main slides in a PowerPoint of your own!
Divide whole number by a fraction

Divide whole number by a fraction

(2)
Simple worksheet on dividing whole by unit and non-unit fractions. (20 questions, no examples. Last three have mixed number answer.) (12/7/16) Answers uploaded
