Letter to a favourite teacher

Student use the writing frame to write a letter to their favourite teacher. We have completed the topic of school subjects, saying why you like them etc. This is an end of topic activity. Students write a letter in their book to their favourite teacher (they cannot pick me!). I check it. Then they write it SUPER neatly onto writing paper - I buy some cute paper and envelopes for this but you could just use coloured paper, ask them to illustrate it or whatever. The point is it is hand written and neat and nicely presented. My favourite part: I put the completed letter into the pigeon hole of the teacher. I don’t explain what it is. So the teachers get a French reading activity to do as well!

No et Moi model essay AQA 2024

Analysez les raisons pour lesquelles l’amitié se développe entre No et Lou. This was one of the questions on the 2024 AQA paper. I set it for my students this week in class and while they were writing I wrote this model one to share with them as an example of the sort of thing I am looking for. When I return their marked essays I attach a copy of my own essay in the hope that they can upscale their work.
French beginner worksheet on family

French beginner worksheet on family

(2)
Two worksheets aimed at beginner year 7 French on the topic of family and introducing the vocab for family members. The grammar focus is on mon/ma and j’ai to form sentences. There are optional challenge questions but the idea would be that students could complete this work independently and without too much support. It would be good for homeowrk, to send home to complete or for when you need a quiet 20 minutes in class for whatever reason! I have aimed this a middle ability set. The first sheet is to build up from single items of vocab (family members) to sentences then on to a short paragraph. The idea is they will make fewer mistakes with writing as it is very scaffolded. The second sheet is reading comprehension with the aim of them being able to use the reading to help them write their own piece using ideas taken from the examples they read.

Work follows on an example answer for a 90 word question and then students write their own after picking out chunks and phrases from the example. A 150 word writing is the final task. A scaffolded worksheet with the aim of getting students to write about their Christmas in French. Starts off with vocab into English then French. Sentence builder to get students to translate sentences into French using modals. Followed by three model paragraphs - all very similar with details changed. I was going to use the opportunity to revise telling the time and daily routine. Students are asked to complete three gapfilled translations into English then translate one back into French. Finally they should be able to write about their own Christmas. If they have worked very nicely there is a battleships game to play too

Then they use the sentence builder (modals) to write about Christmas. The battleships game they see as a reward but in fact they have to read sentences many many times to win.

Sheet 2 : more detailled sentence builder to write sentences about plans post 16 includes easy comprehension reading activity with a lot of repeated vocabulary.
