I have created a set of art activities that can be used with work undertaken in the Literacy Hour. They are designed to introduce the children to a range of tools, techniques and materials as well as to create pictures as a stimulus for storytelling and creative writing. Each activity is linked to a passage of the story to encourage children to respond imaginatively and for describing characters, settings and events. I have used this method many times in KS1 and the writing produced by the children is always remarkable!
