I have also included a slide show that includes some very interesting pieces of art which can be used a discussion point and to get the children talking! A good starting point to any piece of art project or topic or can be used as a whole school assembly topic.

I have been an English Lead for nearly 10 years and my passion is KS1 English. I have designed a full weeks worth of English and Guided Reading, along with all the resources needed, based on the story of ‘The way back home’ by Oliver Jeffers. It also includes plans for PE sessions based on the theme of the book, and other well being sessions and activities to promote a positive mind set. These plans and resources are mainly for Year 2 but could be adapted for Years 1 and 3 too.

I have designed this for a whole school assembly about the effects of littering on our world. I have included a link to a beautiful video and music for the children to listen to and watch whilst entering the assembly. The Powerpoint contains facts and figures about the effects of littering and provides discussion points for what we can do to help. It does contain photos to show the effect of littering too. I have used this assembly numerous times and it always gets the message across.

All resources are differentiated 3 ways and includes a lesson plan and whole class teaching Powepoint for the Starter. Focuses on chocolate bars which enagages the children right from the start and includes retrieval, comprehnsion and inference style questions. Used in Year 2 but cal easily be used in Year 1 and Lower KS2. This can nicely tie in with Willy Wonka and / or George’s Marvellous Medicine.

This has been made for Year 2 Reading. An information Powerpoint all about orangutans and a question sheet to go with. The powerpoint includes examples of the questions to work through and the information is condensed into one sheet so the children can use the subheadings to find key information. These have been used in an observed lesson in Guided Reading that had excellent feedback.

The importance of phonics and reading workshop

I have used this powerpoint for a parent workshop on the importance of Phonics and Reading. It talks through the terminology used in phonics, summarises every phase, encourages parents to create sound buttons etc so it is very interactive and also explains how parents can support phonics, reading and writing at home. It also includes information on the Year 1 phonics screening and how they support at home. We have also sent the presentation home for parents to keep so they can refer back to the guidance when helping with phonics at home. This presentation has had excellent feedback and has also been used by the local authority. This can also be used as staff training to help other members of staff (such as NQT’s and new members of staff)who are not phonics trained understand the terminology and importance of it.

Practical Science Investigation, used in Science Week

(0)
I have used this resource for a practical investigation in Science Week. It is suitable for Year 1,2 or 3. This resource includes a Powerpoint to support the teaching and the Investigation write up work sheet. The Powerpoint supports the writing and is editable to suit your class needs. I worked through each stage together, modelling each section and then letting the children have a go. It is a practical investigation about woodlice and their prefered habitat. I suggest you collect the woodlice before your lesson, approximately 20. Easy to find under rocks, logs and in dark, damp places. The only other thing you need is a large container to begin your experiment. I used a large Tuff Tray. The whole resource is pretty self explanitory and it is an interesting investigation for KS1 and LKS2. I have used it previously in an observation and it has got very positive feedback.

This can be used as an assembly for Primary aged children. It celebrates weird and wonderful traditions around the world for seeing in the new year. It has a youtube link for the fireworks displays from around the world, that can be played when children are entering the assembly. It then discusses the fireworks display in London 2023 and some of its meaning. The Powerpoint has different discussion points and is very relevant and up to date. It then touches on the importance of the song, Auld Lang Syne, on New Year’s Eve and has a link to a beautiful version of the song for children to leave assembly to. This can be easily adapted for whole school or individual class lessons.

Christmas Writing Planning: Mog's Calamity

(0)
This is 10 sessions worth of Christmas English planning that I have used with Year 2 and Year 3. It is based on the wonderful advert that Sainsbury’s and The National Literacy Trust made a few years back. It is a lovely animation and can be easily found on Youtube. Mog’s Calamity. The planning provides ideas for talk for writing games and ideas, differentiated activities and resources. At the end of the sequence of lessons, the children make their own Christmas picture book of the own story, based on the story of Mog. We colour photocopy these so the children can take them home as well as sticking in books as wonderful writing evidence. This is such an engaging resource and every year we achieve wonderful writing results. All resources are provided for each session. This is a 2 week unit but sessions can be easily adpated and shortened/ extended, depending on the needs of your class.

Grandpa's Nativity

This is a great Nativity script about a Grandpa explaining the meaning of Christmas to his grandchildren. So it includes the traditional story but with a modern twist! It has ideas for some traditional and more modern songs which suits all ages. This could even be easily adapted for KS2! It is all in Word so it can be easily adapted for more / less parts by including more / less non speaking or sharing some lines. It lasts for about 40 minutes and all costumes can be easily hand made. If you want any more ideas or have any queries about anything then please just leave a comment and I’ll get back to you. I can give more ideas for the costumes we made. I have included the a casting list to make it easy to cast your parts. All you have to do is copy and paste your casting list. Any feedback is appreciated and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
