Originally designed with 'The London Eye Mystery' in mind, but could be used for any class as a quick starter introduction to idioms. Match the idiom to the meaning.

AQA English Language Paper 1 Questions 1 and 2

A PowerPoint to help Key Stage 3/Lower ability Key Stage 4 practice questions 1 and 2 of the AQA English Language Paper 1 Reading section. The stimulus material is from War Horse (the questions themselves and the extracts are from another free resource I found on TES). I’ve broken the extract up to allow for discussion and annotation on the board and have popped half of a level 4 response on there to get them going.

Infidelity: Rebecca and Poetry

This is a possible structure/essay plan for students to use in answering the question: Compare how the authors of two texts you have studied present ideas about infidelity. It is for those comparing ‘Rebecca’ with the first cluster of poems in the Love and Relationships anthology. (AQA A Level) It is intended to be talked through and used to prompt discussion in advance of students writing the essay themselves.

Form and Structure in The Color Purple

A short PowerPoint (9 slides) explaining the epistolary form and the structure of the novel. The resource considers the way the letters start and end, as well some of the novel’s motifs and symbols. Works as a lesson and includes an independent task at the end, suitable for remote learning. Created with AQA English Literature A Level in mind, bu there are no specific references to Assessment Objectives or exam boards, so easy to tailor to your own needs. If you like this resource, you may be interested in my other resources on ‘The Color Purple’ and ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’

Guided questions on a web-based article about free-running. I’ve used in conjunction with ‘Rooftoppers’ as the non-fiction link and given pairs a different section of the article to explore before feeding back in larger groups. PowerPoint acts as a lesson plan.

This presentation should provide you with an introductory lesson with follow up tasks on writing a biographyl. In light of the new GCSE specifications, this resource is ideal for a KS3 introduction to non-fiction. It includes a link to an actual read online biography and uses this to guide students to research, plan and write their own biographies.

English Language Paper 1 Pan's Labyrinth

Suitable for KS3 or lower ability KS4, this resource uses an extract from Pan’s Labyrinth to take students through Q1, Q4 and Q5 of English Langauge Paper 1 (AQA). I used it as revision, but you could easily adapt it as an introduction to the paper/ skills. The extract is included. The PowerPoint covers Q1, includes some general questions on the text and then focuses on Q4 - Evaluation. There are also some slides to prompt descriptive and narrative writing. This resource promotes independent learning, group work, pair work and discussion. It is not a PowerPoint of set answers or information.
