FREE YouTube Video Year 1 Termly Maths Assessments
I am now converting all my PowerPoint presentations into YouTube videos PowerPoint Combos. This means teachers can teach the lesson using either the PowerPoint or Youtube version of the lesson and then share the YouTube lesson with their students’ parents. This lesson can then be repeated at home as additional homework.
While the Wigan LEA website disappeared, taking all its maths resources with it, I kept a copy and then made a complete set of PowerPoint Maths assessments I want to share with everyone. These would be great for revising for the KS1 SATs tests.
There are two different formats, you can either show them a question, then let them work out the answer and check their answers, or you can show them each question in turn and set them sme time to find the answer and then ask them the next question until you finish the test. I have also included the original test papers for teachers who want to print out all the test papers and answers all in one go.
I hope you find them as useful as I do with my own class.
I love writing for the TES and it does make up a substantial part of my monthly salary. I originally write a book to help people get started. I have now written a second short book to help people take their original TES teaching resources and make them sparkle a little bit more to help them get better sales.
I consider myself a successful TES Gold Author and I am now wanting to share my wealth of ideas, resources and links for FREE with other TES users to help them to become a successful TES author and also to help guide them on the first steps towards success...
This book tells them why they should become a TES author, where to find ideas to turn into presentations, where to find the free images which will help them to make their presentations a success and how to promote their work so that it becomes a highly sought after resource.
Try it today. I love being a TES author and it is certainly a passion for me. I want others to now also follow in my footsteps and also become successful and happy TES authors, the easy way!
Are you looking for global warming or climate change presentations? Here is one I made for my own class.
Here is a sample of my work I have done for Climate Change week.
I took a public domain NASA document about climate change and I have changed it into an informative PowerPoint presentation.
If you like this work, then please look at the full version of PowerPoint presentations and colouring pages about climate change and global warming here :- https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/-11533172
These tests are set to change every 5 seconds, letting you test either individual children or a whole class at once. You might like to also look at my matching mini origami books which go with this series (https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/mini-book-x2-to-x12-multiplication-times-table-tests-4-per-table-11198350) which are designed to make learning time tables more fun.
There are 4 tests per times table, so the children do not know what test you will give them. They are written in PowerPoint so you can easily edit them or change the speed of the tests.
As my Anti-bullying posters (https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/10-free-anti-bullying-week-posters-for-every-classroom-download-and-share-today-11168376) proved so popular, I thought I would continue the series and create a set of motivational maths posters. You could add them to the classroom or all around the school. The would make an excellent resource for International Mathematics day, Pi day or any other numeracy day.
If you like these resources, please click the heart on this page to get informed of when I upload my next set of FREE poster resources.
Please also take the time to say something nice about these resources as you can imagine, they take a long time to make and nice comments motivate me to make more of them!
I have now added a second set of reading posters to join these for Keystage 1 and Keystage 2 students: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/10-free-motivational-reading-posters-for-the-keystage-1-to-keystage-2-classrooms-share-them-today-11174534. Please like them too!

Getting ready for the summer Phonics test? Here are two Phonics revision tests from previous years.
I have converted 4 documents into a simple to use PowerPoint.
It starts off with practice words. These include both real and made up words. These help students to revise how to say the words and to prepare them for the test.
This is followed by the practice test. There are 2 levels, a simple level and a trickier level, In each case there are real and made-up words.
This is followed by recommendations on how to say each word. This is followed by the marking sheet.
These PowerPoints are fun, colourful and an easy way to practice the words either with a whole class or one by one with the students. It is also an excellent way for parents to practice with their children at home.
Make phonics testing fun... try this set of PowerPoints today!
I have created 15 anti-war slogan posters which teachers are free to use, discuss and share in their classrooms. They are a great way for launching and supporting classroom discussions. Why do people go to war? Is there such a thing as a just war? Is there always a solution which does not involve violence?
If you like these posters, please take the time to leave a nice comment, share and distribute these resources to others. You can also click the little heart to be informed of all the future teaching resources I make and upload.
My first reading pack (https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/10-free-reading-posters-for-every-key-stage-2-or-key-stage-3-classroom-download-and-share-today-11173701) has proved to be very popular. I thought I would extend it to also include the Keystage 1 classes. You can also click on the on the little heart on this page to say you like it. Also please leave me a nice comment - it is the nice comments which fuel my motivation to create even more of these fun FREE posters. These posters would be perfect for book week, English Literacy Week, Poetry day or simply as a way of getting children to read more.
Look at the posters and get the children to vote on which posters they find effective. Which were less effective? How could they be improved? I would love to know the students feedback below please!
*Spelling mistake corrected - thanks for the comment below!
FREE Year 6 Termly Maths Assessment using YouTube and PowerPoint Presentations
I am now converting all my PowerPoint presentations into YouTube videos PowerPoint Combos. This means teachers can teach the lesson using either the PowerPoint or Youtube version of the lesson and then share the YouTube lesson with their students’ parents. This lesson can then be repeated at home as additional homework.
I have always used the Wigan Maths Tests to prepare the students for their final exams. However, I wanted to improve it, so that I could ask a question and discuss the answer directly on the whiteboard and so I rewrote the tests as PowerPoint presentations. The students could do it together in the classroom or take them home as additional revision.
You could look at it directly as a presentation and discuss the different activities being shown in each of photos.
I have combined a great presentation on volunteering with 31 different fun teaching activities you can try to do with your class. These activities will help boost their confidence, memory and vocabulary skills.
You could print off and laminate the photos to make an interesting, eye-catching display about International Volunteer Day.
The students could also take the laminated photos and sort them into different voluntary activities. The students can then discuss what they think each one was saying or thinking.
The photos could also be used as prompts for creative writing, factual writing or descriptive writing.
It’s jam-packed from cover to cover with a great selection of photocopiable worksheets. We wanted to provide teachers with a really useful book of no-nonsense grammar worksheets that they can dip into and use in a typical KS1 class.
Don't forget to also check out book 2 in the series (https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/101-ks1-english-grammar-sat-revision-worksheets-book-2-11189219)
It is also ideal for students to work with at home since the answers are all printed at the back.
The book is divided into four parts and is graded in difficulty, so that it begins with some basic stuff and builds up to more challenging grammar activities. It features a selection of Essential English worksheets which provide practice for crucial basic areas of knowledge for learners at Entry Level, like using numbers, writing the alphabet, spelling days and months correctly, and so on.
If you have already bought this book under the name of "Big Grammar Book 1" then this is a remarketed version and you have already bought it.
I have developed an idea. Did you know that during your registration period every day, you could be actively making your whole class happier? This could be done in the morning, the afternoon or even better at the end of each day before they go home.
All they do is complete this 21 page daily journal on things which make them happy. I have used it and I can say it does make a big difference to how you approach life.
Year 5 Block 1 Termly Wigan Maths Assessment using YouTube and PowerPoint Presentation.
I love Year 5 Wigan Maths Tests. While they are little old and don’t follow the current curriculum, they are still an excellent set of tests for revision purposes. I have taken the traditional tests and converted them all into PowerPoint presentations. On top of this, I have given teachers the option of either letting the students only see the answers at the end or after each question. I really like the second option as it means I can set a question, then give them a little time to think about it or discuss it in pairs and then show them the answer and discuss the different ways different children or different pairs found their answers. This is as much a learning experience as the test itself for many children. I really hope this pack is useful for lots of teachers.
I have designed a Thinking Hat Detention Reflection Worksheet. What makes it special? It makes the student think about their actions from 6 different angles. It looks as the positives, the negatives, the facts, the feelings, the future and where their actions might have been correct (thinking creatively).
Then there is an interesting thought web to complete on the back of it. It is just a nice way to reflect on the actions without getting angry or being punished with more work etc...
Sample materials which combine the test papers and mark scheme to help teachers prepare for the 2016 tests. The idea being a student can answer one question and then together the class checks the answers. The original test papers can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/2016-key-stage-2-mathematics-sample-test-materials-mark-schemes-and-test-administration-instructions. This is a great way of reviewing the maths tests as a whole class either as a way of revising after doing the sample tests or simple working through each question as a class.
Are your students studying about toys? These creative writing prompts ask the students to look at each picture and use their 5 senses to describe the image. What can they see, touch, smell, taste, hear and feel in each picture? They then use these notes to write a fuller, more detailed description of the picture. This is a great way to prepare for the KS1 SATs tests and the KS2 SATs tests while still having a lot of fun!
You could look at it directly as a presentation and discuss the different toys being shown in each of the photos.
You could print off and laminate the photos to make an interesting, eye-catching set of story prompts.
The students could also take five of the laminated photos and create them into a story .
The photos could also be used as prompts for creative writing, factual writing or descriptive writing.
Here are lots of different fun teaching resources for students who are learning to speak English as a second language, or for students who want to revise and improve their understanding of English. This is perfect for both an home or school setting.
I love to work through SATs papers are part of my revision program. These two PowerPoints are designed for whole class interaction. All the students need are some whiteboards. Each question is immediately followed by its answer.
This has lots of motivational and organisational benefits. The first is the students get immediate feedback on their ideas and misconceptions, without needing to wait until the end of a test. It also means different students can explain each of their solving strategies to the class and help everyone become more effective learners.
As the answers are straight after the questions, it is possible to simply use these PowerPoints for 5 minutes a day and still get the full benefit as all the questions are immediately solved. This is also a nice way of tutoring students at home. The tutor can then focus on the areas the students to need to work harder in.
