A set of Mass Spectra cards suitable for the new 2015 A-Level chemistry syllabus. Students complete each card, identifying the peaks and answering the questions. Cards include compounds of butane, propanoic acid, bromine, bromoethane and 3-methyl-2-butanone. Resource provided in both Power Point and PDF format with answers included.
A Card match exercise for A-Level Chemistry Transition metals. Students cut out and then match up the transition metal complex reactions and associated colours. Cards include reactions with hydroxide ions and ammonia. Answers are included.
An A-Level chemistry knowledge organiser on Infrared spectra. Contains everything the students need to know about Infrared for the new Edexcel 2015 syllabus including: Examples of spectra for OH, C=O, COOH, C=C, C-H, N-H functional groups. Also includes a data table of absorptions and information on the types of stretches (asymmetric, bending etc). Information about how molecules bonds vibrate is also included.
A playing cards activity which has questions on atomic structure and periodic table. Students can play different card games which also test their knowledge. Students liked playing black Jack where they could only twist and receive a card if they got the question right on the back of the card. There are several games that my students enjoyed playing with this resource. Foundation and higher game cards are included.
I used this with my year 13 class and they loved it. An excellent revision resource. Students have to answer a question on Ecell if they land on a star. Question cards on Ecell are included in this resource.
An Knowledge organiser on A-Level organic chemistry, the hydrocarbons (Alkanes and alkenes) including: naming, intermolecular forces, general formulae, structual & Geometric isomers, reactions of alkanes: oxidation and free radical substitution (with chlorine). Reactions of alkenes with hydrogen, bromine water, steam, hydrogen halides, potassium managanate. Covalent bonding (sigma/pi bonds), addition polymerisation, use as fuels, fractional distillation, cracking reforming etc. Mechanisms: Free radical substitution and electrophilic addition (markovnikov & the inductive effect). The resource will print onto A4 and then can be expanded clearly onto A3. A PDF file and an editable PowerPoint file is included allowing editing if desired.
A set of flash cards on the Edexcel A-Level topic 6abc Chemistry of the hydrocarbons. Covers questions on the chemistry of the alkanes and alkenes from topic 6abc including the mechanisms, reactions, conditions and formulae. In Power Point format, the resources will print out ready to go, takes 5 mins to cut out the cards and the resource is formatted so that the answers are printed on the back of the questions. Simply print back to back for question and answer. Theres >100 cue card questions.
A graphic organiser on the A-Level Chemistry concept of 1H NMR. A visual aid that illustrates the main points that students need to know about the theory of NMR (solvents, TMS, D2O, splitting pattern, integration etc).
Two knowledge organisers on the A-level chemistry practical “oxidation of alcohols" including the oxidation of ethanol to ethanoic acid and the oxidation of butan-2-ol to butanone. The oxidation of alcohols is one of the** required practicals for A-Level Chemistry**. The knowledge organisers include the method, apparatus diagram and theory that goes with the practical. It then includes information on each stage of the process, reflux, distillation, washing, drying and redistillation. I use it in my lessons to go through the procedure in greater depth and then students refer to this when practising questions.
A knowledge organiser on NMR spectroscopy suitable for A-Level Chemistry syllabuses. Includes information about the theory of 1H (proton) NMR. Includes explanation of how NMR works (property of spin, magnetism and radio waves). Also contains information about TMS, solvents, labile protons, Low and high resolution, spin-spin coupling, n+1 rule, splitting patterns, integration etc.
An A-Level Chemistry knowledge organiser on oxidation and reduction. Includes information on assigning oxidation number rules, oxidation and reduction, oxidising and reducing agents, disproportionation, writing half equations (in both acidic and alkaline conditions) and combining half equations to write a full ionic equation. Suitable for all exam boards.
An Edexcel A-Level Chemistry knowledge organiser on equilibrium. Covers all the content about equilibrium from topic 10 including using Le Chatelier’s principle to determine the effect of temperature, concentration, pressure and a catalyst on the position of equilibrium. Includes examples and information about the Haber compromise. Also includes information on how to write the Kc expression.
An A-Level Chemistry knowledge organiser about Kinetics. Contains information on rates of reaction (factors that affect the rate, experimental methods, explanations of why these factor affects the rate etc.) Also contains informaiton on Maxwell Boltzmann distributions and how they are used to explain the effect of temperature and a catalyst.
An A-Level Chemistry Knowledge organiser on topic 1 Atomic structure and periodic table. Covers information on structure of the atom, key definitions (RAM, RMM, Relative isotopic mass, Isotopes, first ionisation energy etc), Mass Spectrometry (using spectra to determine RAM), trends in ionisation energy, Using successive ionisation energies to determine the group an element is in given , electronic configuration (s,p,d), 1st ionisation energies across a period as evidence for subshells, periodicity (how type of bonding is linked to melting points) and emission spectrum.
