Visual structure strips with key words that can be used to support students write a method for investigating specific heat capacity using a Joulemeter.
Students stick the strip in their books down the margin and then use it to construct their own method.

First page has space for teacher modelling and explaining by using “I do, we do, you do”.
The second 2 pages are scaffolded using backwards fading to support all students, from those working at lower grades to those aiming at grade 9.
The tasks start at substituting values and calculating, they then move forward and require students to change the subject of the equation, change units and then link different equations together.
