Revision sheet for students to revise:
- Converging and Diverging lenses
- Ray Diagrams
- Properties and uses of lenses
Includes answers and worked solutions
Student activity to model the random nature of radioactive decay. Each group (2 to 3 students) will need a pack of skittles or m&ms.
Document includes student instructions, table template and graph template for students to record their data.
Step by step teacher instructions and guided worksheets on classic experiments in physics that are hard to get working the first time! Designed for new physics teachers or non specialist physics teachers.
Experiments include:
- Parallel and Series Circuits
- Measuring Refractive Index
- Measuring Specific Heat Capacity
- Transformers
A set of possible physics teaching ideas for the IMYC Unit 'Challenge'. Please note this is not a scheme of work, but a list of possible teaching ideas, and practicals for the Challenge Unit, I have linked it to the mechanics topics from KS3 in the UK.
If you teach, or are about to teach IMYC you are no doubt aware that there are very little teaching ideas for the sciences. I've taken what topics the National Curriculum recommend for physics, and adapted them to IMYC units.
I use this activity with my middle ability year 9 group, but it can be adapted to other abilities.
I showed the YouTube video of the Brazuca ad first, as a quick intro. Then the students need to read through the National Geographic article on the Brazuca and attempt to answer the questions. The article and questions should take around 25 mins or so.
On the electronic copy of the article, the hyperlinks still work if you want to take it further.
Activity I do with my GCSE groups on size of doses from sources. I teach in Mexico so the word document mentions figures for Mexico (just change to UK!) Students can graph using Excel or by hand and then compare different doses of radiation.
The image is from the website xkcd and is public domain so can be reproduced. Its a big image and needs to be printed in A3 to be readable. If you cannot print it out the weblink is attached.
I really welcome feedback, on how I can improve this resource! Thanks!
A set of possible physics teaching ideas for the IMYC Unit 'Justice'. Please note this is not a scheme of work, but a list of possible teaching ideas, and practicals for the Justice Unit, I have linked it to the Energy topics from KS3 in the UK.
Also included are a couple of links to resources that I have made that relate to the topic, and they are free.

A set of possible physics teaching ideas for the IMYC Unit 'Interpretation'. Please note this is not a scheme of work, but a list of possible teaching ideas, and practicals for the Interpretation Unit, I have linked it to the Space and Matter topics from KS3 in the UK.

Lesson slides for introducing atoms and the periodic table to middle ability KS3 students.

Students use their knowledge of Newton’s Law of Gravitation and circular motion to answer the following question:
How many times a day do astronauts on the International Space Station see the sun rise?
With worked solution.
A worksheet aimed to teach students how to convert from Kelvin to Celsius and vice versa. Students have to calculate the surface temperature of planets in the Solar System, and then plot a graph of distance from the Sun v temperature. Then use the graph to answer questions.
Aimed for non-specialist physics teachers (or new teachers) who are teaching GCSE physics. A guided walk-though of how to measure the specific heat capacity of different metals.
Includes teacher instruction sheet, and a student investigation sheet.
