This is a series of graded C to A* word and symbol equations with answers. Balanced symbol equations are included as are lesson objectives and 3 different starters. Please have a look at the slides and print off those that are the most appropriate as single slide handouts. I will update this later in the year with example exam questions and explicit AFL activities so that this becomes a ready to use resource that could be used as part of an outstanding lesson. This is a resource for the OCR GCSE Gateway B3 module designed for an additional class up to grades A and without the challenge expected for triple science. There is a student gap fill for all parts of the module (a copy of the spec is attached for reference - pages 52 to 67). Also included is a heart diagram with labels and 20 marks of exam questions based on respiration and parts of the cell (taken from AQA but relevant to the OCR spec). I will add further revision resources in Easter 2014.

Templates are provided that can be readily modified. One template is a GCSE revision template where students are guided to create their own exam questions and peer edit answers. The second template is useful for writing Blooms-leveled answers at Key Stage 3 and includes a wordbank. The third is an AS Chemistry exam question with keyword glossary. All templates include written instructions for students. Peer editing is great when combined with AFL strategies before and after the activity.

This is a lesson on word and symbol equations for the KS3 acids and bases topic. Levels 4 to high level 6 are covered. This would also suit GCSE classes. Students replace pictures with words to write word equations in their books or on whiteboards. The level 6 task is writing symbol equations where the formulae of salts is provided. There are a variety of differentiated worksheets. There are acids and bases labels than be cut and laminated for a kinesthetic activity. They need to add water. Debating and critical thinking skills are an absolutely essential component of scientific thinking. I have provided a range of resources to promote debating skills: a lesson plan where students consider the disadvantages of cars and create their own solutions, debating strategies ideas and student instructions that can easily be adopted into a wide variety of lessons across different subjects. This an A4 leaflet template. There are a variety of pages: blank, sheets with instructions and business (selling a business) and biology templates (what is evolution?). The PowerPoint can be modified and tailored to the lesson or projected to the class.

I have designed a Scrabble board and scoring sheet. When I printed these I double-sided the 2 pages (board one side and scoring sheet the other) and laminated them. These boards can be reused. This suits any topic where vocabulary is being tested. Have fun!

This is a homework project with 2 optional extension tasks where students research what hearing is. This homework is set at least a week in advance and is used as the basis for a peer teaching lesson which is guided (facilitated) by the teacher. Students may produce a written textbook page or podcast.

The slides are printed as 6 slide handouts and then cut. Lower ability can compare patients 1 and 2. Higher ability can compare all patients. Patients 3 to 5 pose challenging ethical questions. Use Blooms questioning to further differentiate (compare L4, Justify L7).

This is a lesson that was taught to year 7 where we looked at the tissues that make up an organ. A carousel-style practical was set up where there were different plastic organ models around the room and students had to identify the tissues in each organ. I am putting together a series of AFL strategies and I will be adding to this series over the coming year. This strategy has made a great difference to my classroom teaching and can easily be made kinaesthetic using a question ball (e.g. small soft football or teddy). This is a printout to be stuck in pupils books giving students guidance on how to write better exam questions and a model mark scheme. It works well when pupils are given a specification or list of learning objectives to use a guideline for what questions may be asked.
