I worked as a specialist mathematics teacher for over 30 years and I also developed my own Mathswizard clubs for primary aged pupils. The products are mainly Power Points but not exclusively. They are usually games, puzzles and quizzes or activities built around a theme. The Taster products showcase an activity from the full length resource. There are 10 animated slides which have frogs, lizards, bats or spiders going into the cauldron. Students have to calculate the total number of legs on each slide.
From this one Power point you can make many more tests. Just delete or add spell ingredients and save your new file. The emphasis is on 2, 4 and 8 multiplication tables.
This fun game is to be used on an interactive board with 2 students competing to get the most correct. The properties of a quadrilateral are given and the student has to identify the correct one from 6 choices.. They have 10 or 5 seconds to answer depending on the version chosen. This can be used as a starter or plenary. The latest review for this resource on another site - "Excellent product".
This colourful cross curricular quiz enables groups of students to work in teams. The 5 rounds explore the Viking era, weighing of metals, writing, Viking ships, and a Viking journey. Mathematics has been used in all aspects of this quiz. Codes, vectors, ordering years, and calculations. A link to the BBC website adds further interest in order to solve one of the problems (approx 3 mins). There is an accompanying answer sheet for teams to use. This quiz could be used as a stand alone quiz or as part of a topic. NB The score slide has been updated to allow keyboard entry. An animation help slide for vectors has been added 12.04.17
A fun animated Power point that involves two children competing, pushing pumpkins and bobbing for apples. The distances are in metres and the weights are in grams. Pupils have to calculate the mean, median and range and use these statistics to decide the winner. Hints are available to remind pupils how to calculate each average.
Two cross curricular fun resources for History and Maths.Quiz 2 is aimed at lower KS2 and quiz 1 upper KS2. The class is divided into 6 teams who work together to solve maths problems related to the Romans. The quiz lasts about one hour.Categories include Timeline, Roman money, Roman Numerals, Roman Army, Mosaics, Roman Toilets and a Roman Walk. There is also an answer sheet to download. This activity should involve discussion around solving maths problems.
It could be used as a stand alone activity or complement a history topic.
These resources have been updated so that the score slide can be completed using the keyboard.

A fully animated Halloween maths quiz with sound. This is a quiz for teams of children working together solving problems. Order pumpkins by weight; work out how many frogs and spiders are in the cauldron; match the ghostly frames using enlargement; calculate mean, median, mode and range to compare pumpkin patches; and finally go trick or treating using factors, primes and multiples. This fully animated resource with fun monster characters invites pupils to consider a square divided into 18 triangles. Halves, thirds, sixths and ninths are displayed. The slides offer an opportunity to talk about what they see. This activity leads into 2 dice games. The first game, played in pairs, pupils take turns to roll the dice. On their turn they have to colour the correct fraction onto a copy of the square . The winner is the first to complete the whole square.The second is an open activity which challenges pupils to make up their own game for halves, fifths, quarters and tenths.
