I develop my own TESOL teaching resources, specifically aimed at adult learners at a range of abilities. My classes are beginner (CEFR A1-2), pre-intermediate (CEFR B1), upper intermediate (CEFR B2), and advanced (CEFR C1-2). I offer a range of topics including speaking, culture, grammar. In addition, I combine my passion for history with my EFL teaching experience in my History classes.

Students will learn about the various types of noun in English: common, proper, abstract, concrete, countable and uncountable, collective. Students will learn the difference between present continuous for present actions and future actions. Students also learn when not to use the present continuous for future actions. An interactive speaking activity allows students to practice using the target language. A reading activity and a discussion end the class.

A discussion and noughts-and-crosses exercise give students the chance to practice with the language.

Students will learn key vocabulary (adverb, definite, indefinite) to help them understand grammatical terms they encounter in the class. The basic concept of adverbs is introduced before students focus on why we use adverbs of time. Students learn the three key types (when, how long, how often) and practice with various brainstorming and gap-fill activities. Students test their understanding using concept check questions. Discussion and reading activities allow students to produce the language individually.

Students learn general rules for using reflexive pronouns, including which pronoun to use if the subject’s gender is not known, showing emphasis using reflexive pronouns and showing that an action is completed by the subject alone. Next, they practice the language with gap-fill exercises, a reading activity and a discussion.

Students learn what a compound adjective is and how it is formed. Students learn the eight types of compound adjectives before testing their knowledge in an activity where they identify each type according to the rules they learned. Students then practice making their own compound adjectives using prompts. Students complete a reading activity in which they identify compound adjectives. Finally, students have a chance to use the language in a discussion with their partners.

Students learn the form and function of the future continuous before practicing making a future continuous sentence in a controlled exercise. Students then read a short story about two friends who go fishing. The students must identify examples of the future continuous and explain the exact function of the example. Students then practice changing the form of sentences between positive, negative and interrogative. Finally, students discuss with a partner, using the language.

This is an upper intermediate (CEFR B2, IELTS 6.0) EFL Grammar class about compound nouns. Students brainstorm some compound nouns they already know related to water and air. Students then learn the form and function of compound nouns before drilling the stress on compound nouns. Next, students identify whether each compound noun is countable or uncountable. Students will complete more controlled exercises before reading an article and identifying compound nouns based on what they have learned so far. A discussion ends the class.

Students learn what the function of the gerund is when used as a subject. Students test their understanding using a concept check before they complete a gap-fill exercise. Students then learn about the gerund when used as an object before completing another gap-fill exercise. Next, the gerund used as a subject complement, as well as the difference between object and subject complement, is introduced. Students then learn some key vocabulary before completing a reading activity.

This is an upper intermediate (CEFR B2, IELTS 6.0) EFL Grammar class about articles. Students will learn the difference between the indefinite and definite article. Concept check questions test students’ understanding and gap-fill exercises allow students to implement what they have learned in controlled exercises. Students also learn the difference between ‘a’ and ‘one’. Students complete a quiz where they choose the correct article for each gap. In addition, students read an article and complete the gaps with correct articles. Students discuss the most important invention with a partner before ending the class with a final concept check.

Students look at an example of the past simple and the present perfect to see the difference in meaning. The form and functions of the present perfect is then introduced with example sentences. The difference between the simple past and present perfect is emphasised. Students learn the past participle and activate their prior knowledge by completing a list of commonly-used past participles. Students then learn to use common general adverbs of time with the present perfect compared to the past simple, which uses specific adverbs of time. Students then learn the difference between ‘for’ and ‘since’ when used with the present perfect. Adverbs (already, just, still, yet) commonly used with the present perfect are learned and practiced. Students finish the class with a discussion using the present perfect.

This is an upper intermediate (CEFR B2, IELTS 6.0) EFL Grammar class about phrasal verbs. Students will learn the difference between a verb and a phrasal verb and how to recognise them. Students will also learn that phrasal verbs are most commonly used in spoken English, and to learn their meanings by comparing them with more formal verbs. Students learn the form of a phrasal verb by looking at the main verb and the particle. The most common particles are reviewed. Students read a text and identify the phrasal verbs. Separable and inseparable phrasal verbs are then studied. Finally, students learn the difference between transitive and intransitive phrasal verbs. Gap-fill exercises help students to consolidate their learning.
