Chemical Formulae

A simple, photocopiable worksheet (black and white!) that gives practice at interpreting simple chemical formulae. The examples get harder as you proceed. It is comprised of two pages of examples. It is suitable for KS3 and KS4 students. It could be used in class or for homework.
Chemical Analysis wordsearch

Chemical Analysis wordsearch

A simple wordsearch on 1 side of A4. It is quite a challenge! For GCSE chemists. ( I have now removed an error which had two letters in one box and one box with a space. I had to make it bigger and spread the puzzle onto two sides, one side with clues and one with the puzzle grid. Apologies to those who bought the defective version- contact me for a replacement)

Bunsen burner interactive

For those year six induction days or the like, this is a drag & drop exercise to label the bunsen burner. Double click on the html file and there it is! Please note: in order to provide a rich interactive experience, my drag & drop resources are mini-web sites local to your computer. After unzipping, they comprise a folder containing the main .html file and another folder containing the graphic resources and my coding to make the resource work. Double click on the .html file and the resource will work. If, however , you move or delete any of the files from this hierarchy, the resource will not work.

Electronic configuration and atomic structure Drag & Drop

A Drag & Drop exercise for building up the electronic structure of atoms. After a short cartoon for building up an atom of calcium, students build up four atoms by drag and drop. Could be used projected on the whiteboard or by students individually at computers. Double click on the full atomic structure.html file and it will open in your browser. I made it big for projection, but it can be made smaller by zooming out using the browser zoom control. A preview is available on my web site Please note: in order to provide a rich interactive experience, my drag & drop resources are mini-web sites local to your computer. Simply drag the configurations to the correct box, if it is correct it will stick and you will receive praise, if not it will invite you to try again. Open in a flash-enabled browser or windows media player, and maximise the window. I am working on a version for html5. Useful for reinforcing the basis of the periodic table.

Electronic configuration and the Periodic Table Interactive

This is an HTML5 version of my Electronic configuration and the Periodic Table activity (no flash plugin is required) Double click on the periodic table.html file et voila… . drag the electronic configurations to the correct elements. This provides an excellent understanding of the layout of the periodic table and its basis in electronic structure. Can be used many times, say as AFL on the whiteboard. It can be previewed on my web site. (pleas note: I made it big for projection, but if it’s too big or small, simply zoom in or out with the browser zoom control.)
