A great activity for Harvest! Creating pictures in the style of Guiseppe Arcimboldo. For this, I took in lots of different fruit and vegetables for the children to study and sketch before arranging them into portraits in the style of the artist. The work made for a great display! We also learnt and sang ‘Harvest For The World’.

Year 5 guided reading activity in which the children have to use their inference skills to decide what is happening in the poem. Includes QR code with a link to video where the children can see the man himself, Spike Milligan, reading the poem.

The children have to read the poem and use their inference skills to decide what the poem is about. Includes QR codes with links to websites which explore some of the vocabulary used in the poem.

Comprehension activity which starts with a warm up- the children have to guess the words which could go in the gaps by reading around the words and understanding the context of the text.

This lesson looks at historical evidence and children having to justify their answers. A highly interactive lesson, the lesson involves role play- which the children LOVED!!

This was a great visual and interactive lesson in which the children used various fruit and LOTS of toilet roll to gain an understanding of the size of the planets and their relative distance from each other. Includes: Lesson plan, Differentiated worksheets.

This is a presentation for International Dot Day. Used with Year 5 children, although it could be adapted for any age group. There is a ;link to the story as well as an art activity based on the life and times of Robert Delaunay to produce a class display for Dot Day.

This activity was used to begin our Space Race topic. A mystery rucksack was placed in the class room with the attached pictures inside. (we used a silvery, space- looking bag). As the items were pulled out, the children had to guess who the bag belonged to (starting with more random clues). This was used as a classroom display.

Used with a class of Year 5 children, this lesson details a healthy lunchbox.

This is an introductory lesson to the history of space travel used with Year 5. It details the main events and gives the children a sense of chronology. The children have to reach their own conclusion as to who ‘won’ the space race by justifying their decision. The resource includes: PowerPoint presentation, Differentiated worksheets, Lesson plan.
