I'm currently teaching 8th grade Spanish. I have taught all levels of Spanish, from kindergarten to high school, at various times in the past 17 years. I have a BA in Spanish and International Relations from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, IL, and an MA in Spanish Language and Culture from the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. Spanish Direct Object Pronouns and Food Chant and Student Activity - This download includes the following: 1. Chant - 28 lines with a clip art image illustrating each of the 14 food words. 2. Chant without the Spanish food word so students have to say it from memory and looking at the clip art. 3. Chant with Spanish and English food words and the direct object pronouns missing so students must figure out what goes in the blanks. 4. Student activity chant template so students can add their own food words and direct object pronouns and create their own versions of the chant. This fun chant contains 14 different food words, direct object pronouns lo, la, los, and las, me gustaria, lo siento, the verb ver, the command pasame, and 14 different names of girls and boys. Sample food words included are jugo, pudin, tostada, camarones, and postre. The first line of each stanza is a person asking another to pass a food. The response on the second line substitutes a direct object pronoun for the food word. The repetitive nature and cadence help students learn the vocabulary quickly. Once they do, they enjoy seeing how quickly they can say the chant!

Adjectives Mirror Sketch Activity in English - Students sketch their self portraits in one mirror and then write adjectives used to describe themselves in the other. Uses and ideas for this activity: 1. This is a great practice activity when descriptive adjectives are introduced. 2. Use as a back to school review of descriptive adjectives. 3. This is a fun speaking activity when students present their completed sketches to their classmates. 4. Use at the beginning of the year and the end of the year to see how students progress throughout the year. 5. Decorate the hall or a bulletin with these colorful, personalized student creations. The download includes 4 slightly different versions of the activity to give flexibility and allow for differentiation. The 4 versions include: 1. Partners quiz each other to see who can get all vocabulary correct and climb "las escaleras", or the stairs. One student has the answer key and the other has the infinitives with subject pronouns. After one makes it to the top of the stairs, students switch parts. The activity contains 35 future tense verb conjugations of the verbs caber, decir, hacer, poder, poner, querer, saber, salir, tener, valer, and venir. The download contains: 1. Activity page answer key grid for partner 1. They are copied 2 per page. 2. Activity page with infinitive/subject pronoun grid for partner 2. These are also copied 2 per page. 3. This activity uses the preterit with 16 different weekend activities. The majority of verbs are regular. Examples of verbs are: cocinar, limpiar, escribir, caminar, ir de compras, and jugar. Students will practice 3 forms of each verb with these activities. Each student mingles with a bingo grid and must find different classmates that can reply yes when asked about statements in each of the 16 boxes. A sample statement is, "Caminé con mi perro." When a student replies yes to the questions, the questioning student follows up by asking in Spanish for the student's signature. The goal is to be the first student to fill the entire bingo grid. Also included is a follow up worksheet that requires students to: 1. Write a sentence for each of the 16 boxes in the grid. The student includes the name of the student that signed the box and must change the verbs to the third person. 2. Write an appropriate Spanish infinitive verb under 6 images at the bottom of the paper. These are fun activities for students learning the preterit, and they're also great back to school get to know you / review activities for students with prior Spanish experience. Students love to talk about their weekend and this allows them to do so, but in Spanish!

Each booklet contains 12 pages: the title page with 11 additional pages containing common Spanish family words. Words included are mamá, papá, abuelo/a, primo/a, tío/a, hermano/a, and perro. Also included are suggestions for using the booklets and an assembly instruction page. Students first cut, assemble and read the booklet that contains text and illustrations of family members. "Quiero a mi" is repeated 12 times so students learn the phrase quickly and easily. They then create their own version using the text only template. They'll enjoy sharing their creations with the family members featured in their booklets. These booklets work great as a Spanish Valentine's Day activity! The illustration version can be projected in class to present, review and practice pronunciation of the family vocabulary words. The text only version can be projected onto the Smart Board and students can draw pictures on the Smart Board that correspond to the text.

This activity includes soy with 16 different descriptive adjectives of people. Examples of adjectives are: feliz, trabajador, perezoso, inteligente, generoso, consentido, guapo, and atlético. Students will practice 3 forms of ser in the present tense with these activities.
