New Zealand Sight Words - 4 in a row game
NZ high frequency sight words – Magenta to Orange.
4-in-a-row game.
♦ Colour and black/white
♦ 2 boards for each colour (3 for orange)
Words are written with the NZ Basic Script font.
How to Play:
A game for 2 players. Players take alternate turns at reading a word on the board and placing a marker on top of it. The first person to get 4 markers in a row is the winner. The row can be vertical, horizontal or diagonal.

New Zealand high frequency sight words.
Upper and lower case word matching activity for words in the Magenta to Orange levels.
Words are written with the NZ Basic Script font.
Provided in both colour and black/white .

New Zealand Sight Words – Orange Board Games
NZ sight words - Orange - BOARD GAMES
A set of 11 colourful and engaging board games for your students to practise their sight words at the Orange level.
Sight words are read when the player lands in that square.
Some games have an endpoint (where players reach the ‘finish’) and some games are ongoing until the allocated time is up, or a certain number of points have been reached.
♦ Designed to be printed on A3 size paper.
♦ Words are written in the NZ Basic Script font.
♦ Equipment needed: dice and counters.
♦ Instructions provided for each gameboard (A4 size) but feel free to adapt them to suit your learners.
♦ Engaging themes and graphics.
♦ A great alternative to games on a computer screen.
Use them as part of your guided reading rotations, as a literacy centre activity, wet weather games, early finisher activities, etc.
Please note that there are 11 game boards in this set (unlike only 5 in the Magenta, Red, Yellow and Blue sets). This is due to the larger number of sight words in this colour.
These board games teach important skills such as:
♦ Word recognition and counting.
♦ Turn taking, waiting patiently and sharing equipment.
♦ Friendly competition.
♦ Focus and persistence.
♦ Eye-hand coordination.
♦ Interacting with others.

New Zealand Sight Words - Activity Sheets - Magenta, Red, Yellow
84 activity sheets for words from the Magenta, Red and Yellow levels of the colour wheel.
8 activities on each sheet:
♦ Read it
♦ Colour it
♦ Trace it
♦ Write it
♦ Clap it (how many syllables?)
♦ Spell it (write it in the ‘letter boxes’)
♦ Connect it (draw a line to connect the letters)
♦ Find it (find the word written 4 times)
There is also space on the top of each sheet for your students to write their name.
The font:
The font used is ‘NZ Basic Script’. The letter shapes are the same as those recommended in the NZ Ministry of Education Handbook – ‘Teaching Handwriting’.
New challenges:
The sheets are all the same format however there are a couple of new challenges as the levels progress.
♦ At the Magenta and Red levels, the ‘connect it’ letters are all joined either vertically, diagonally or horizontally in a left to right manner. At the Yellow level the letters may also be joined in a ‘backwards’ manner (ie, right to left direction).
♦ At the Magenta level all of the ‘find it’ words are written with the NZ basic script font. At the red level there are 8 different easy-to-read fonts used, and at the Yellow level 8 more different fonts are introduced that are slightly more decorative/complex. (see examples of all 3 levels on the thumbnail images above)

New Zealand Sight Words – ‘Make it’ mats
Activity mats for students working on their sight words from the Magenta to Orange level of the NZ reading colour wheel.
Print and laminate the mats. Students make the words using alphabet letters (eg magnetic letters, scrabble tiles, letters written on milk bottle lids, letters written on pieces of card …)
The type of activity that your ‘hands-on learners’ will appreciate.
Great for a learning station, early finisher activity, etc.
This activity will reinforce reading and spelling.

New Zealand Sight Words – FONT-astic activity sheets
A total of 40 activity sheets for words at the Magenta, Red, Yellow and Blue levels of the NZ colour wheel.
These activity sheets focus on reading and matching sight words that are written in different fonts. The fonts get more difficult to read as the levels progress.
♦ Magenta - all words are written in the NZ basic script font.
♦ Red - 8 different fonts that are easy to read.
♦ Yellow 8 different fonts that are slightly decorative.
♦ Blue 8 different fonts that are decorative.
There are 10 activity sheets for each level and there are 5 different templates.
