In the Common Core Standards for English Language Arts on page 33, students are expected to build knowledge systematically by using nonfiction text in the areas of history/social studies and science in a variety of areas. One of these areas in grades 2 and 3 is to read informational/ expository text within the subject matter of the digestive and excretory system. This report is also designed to not only learn and explain the new information, but answer some higher level thinking questions to further assess the students’ grasp of the information.
