Best suited for a Level IV or V AP class, this exerise is also fun for Heritage Language Speaker students who seldom get the practice they need in past subjunctive tense. ¿Cómo eras de niño? Group survey in the Imperfect tense

Working on Imperfect tense and childhood vocabulary? This 25 question grid gets students moving around the rooming interviewing classmates using the imperfect tense. Students ask the questions and try to find one each student can answer. They record their answer and have the student initial the box. First student to get all their boxes signed by different classmates wins. This activity works best if you model how to interview with a student volunteer. Penalty for speaking English if you catch them. All questions are in the imperfect and link habitual childhood activities to imperfect tense. Activity takes about 20 minutes to run in a large class and is best suited to Spanish II or higher who have studied formation of imperfect. You could easily follow this up with a discussion in group asking students to share specific pieces of information (name of favourite toy, what they were afraid of etc)

EL GRAN 50 Prueba de Preterito

(0)
This 50 verb conjugation quiz is useful for a higher level Spanish class where students have already learned all the irregular verb forms in the preterite. I give this quiz several times to students over the course of a week and then let them choose which score to take for credit. Quiz should take no longer than 15-20 minutes since students have multiple opportunities to better their scores. I do not return any copies of the quizzes until the last day when they choose which one to submit. Download contains an answer key and I allow students to check their own work as fixing the errors helps them to unlearn bad patterns.

This little comparison activity works great as a warm up or reinforcement when working with comparisons and numbers. (Plus de, moins de and autant de) Students tally up their candies and then make some comparisons between the colors, then they compare their candies to a classmates. Teacher needs to provide a small cup of M & M's or similar candies to each student. (I use dixie bathroom cups) Students enjoy the activity and when finished, eating the results. Works well for French I or intro students who can count to 20 and know their colors.

Poetry Terms in Spanish and English

(0)
Getting ready to start a unit on Pablo Neruda? I use this worksheet to review students prior knowledge of poetry terminology while giving them the terminology vocabulary in Spanish. If you have a basic DVD in your schools library on English poetry, you can use this to accompany it, but its not required, and students can complete the terms with you in class. I created this after slogging through poetry for a couple of seasons while having to re-teach students necessary terms. It made a big difference at how quickly they were able to apply similar skills to poems in Spanish.
