Bootham School

Bootham School is a leading co-educational day and boarding school located in the beautiful and historic city of York. Set across two sites, it is home to more than 670 students aged 3-19. The senior school occupies 10 acres in the heart of the city, a few minutes walk from York Minster. Bootham Junior School is just over a mile away, on a purpose-built 10-acre site.

Bootham continues to build on its national reputation as a school with a difference and numbers across both schools are at an historic high. Founded by Quaker families, the School values academic rigour and public duty and encourages students to be creative thinkers, peacemakers and confident humanitarians.

Academic standards are strong and leavers gain entry to the UK’s leading universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Durham, UCL, King’s College, Central St. Martin’s and the Royal College of Music. The School also has a well-earned reputation for producing future engineers and students are regular holders of the prestigious Arkwright Scholarship.

The award-winning enrichment programme allows students to choose from more than 100 activities. All teaching staff participate in this programme, and some may lead in sport, the Duke of Edinburgh scheme or on the many local trips and global expeditions which are a feature of Bootham life.
