About The Ecclesbourne School

The Ecclesbourne School in Duffield, Derbyshire provides an excellent education within a happy, purposeful atmosphere.  We are a non-selective school and committed to maintaining an all-inclusive community for all our students.

Since opening more than fifty years ago as a small county grammar school in the grounds of Duffield Hall, The Ecclesbourne School has been through many changes but, whatever our particular title or status, the school’s great strength has always been our continued commitment to providing a first class education for the children and young adults we serve. Each year we aim to build on the high standards and reputation achieved over many years, whilst looking to prepare the young people in our care for the challenges of the future.

We believe that our students are all equally important. We encourage them to welcome and celebrate their inherent differences and we operate a fully inclusive system designed to ensure all our students achieve their full potential. We encourage students to value each other and the relationships they make. We have very high expectations and we challenge every member of our school community to raise their aspirations and develop the confidence to reach for the stars.

We have a close relationship with all our primary school partners and we build on the excellent educational experiences that our students bring with them to the School by providing a wide range of exciting learning opportunities through our broad and balanced curriculum. We encourage students and staff alike to be lifelong learners as we help them to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to leave our secure school environment to further their education or to enter the world of work.

We are dedicated to improve continually the quality of education we provide. If you join us we expect you to take a full part in the life and work of the school, to meet the challenges that we offer and to endeavor to become an active member of our school community. The School’s motto, “Integrity, Tenacity, Service”, is as significant now as it was when the School opened its doors in 1957.

If you want an inspirational experience then Ecclesbourne is the School for you.

What people say about us

Since joining the school in September, I have felt extremely welcomed by both my faculty and wider colleagues. There is a strong team player ethos and an open door policy means that help is always on hand when needed. The behaviour of students is excellent and my classes have been a pleasure to teach. As they leave the classroom, students say ‘thank you’; this doesn’t happen in every school. The students are rightly pushed to achieve academic excellence but there is also a strong sense of encouraging them to realise their full potential through the wide range of enrichment activities on offer. The recent house plays are a perfect example of this; students from every year group collaborated to produce outstanding results and it is only too clear that they have a great sense of pride in belonging to a particular house. In terms of the induction programme, I have found it useful in the sense that I have been able to attend those sessions that I felt would be of most benefit. This was particularly useful at the start of the term when I had to get to grips with new systems.

- Member of staff

During my first term at The Ecclesbourne School, I’ve have felt extremely welcomed by staff and students alike. The department that I work in have been beyond supportive and encourage me to be the best teacher that I can possibly be. The Ecclesbourne School inspires pride in its students through presentation, attitude and extra-curricular events. I have never know a school take so much delight in organised student-centred activities that, ultimately, boost the students’ ideologies. Recently, the House Plays have shone light on the talented community of students and their personal drive to produce a performance that represents their working ethic as a school; these were a pleasure to watch. As an NQT, I have found the induction programme to be useful in finding out about different members of staff, key information for school life, and communicating with colleagues. There is a structured programme for NQT students that has allowed me to work independently and in correlation with my mentor on my upcoming goals. I feel confident and self-assured with the mentor that I have for my NQT year at The Ecclesbourne School. Rosie goes above and beyond every day to ensure that I am organised, happy and feeling involved in the school’s community. This has been an integral part of my first term and motivates me to produce high quality lessons, assessments and scheme of work for all key stages. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first term at The Ecclesbourne School and I hope that it will be the first of many in an enjoyable career.
