About The Knights Templar School
“The Academy motto “Courage and Courtesy” is evident in the excellent relationships between all students and with adults.” (Ofsted)
Knights Templar School is a very successful school, sitting at the heart of the community in Baldock, Hertfordshire. Students’ results are good and improving and behaviour is excellent. The school is highly regarded locally, being regularly oversubscribed. We receive in the region of 600 applications for 210 Year 7 places each year.
In line with our school motto, we recognise the importance of developing and providing all our students with the courage, confidence and communication skills they require to flourish and succeed, but also to promote traditional values of courtesy, respect and good discipline.
Students of all abilities achieve well and make good progress. Young people have an excellent attitude to learning. They enjoy school and want to succeed. Examination results at GCSE and A level are consistently good. Attainment and Achievement are strong. In 2022, 70% of students achieved English and Maths at grade 4 or above and 52% achieved English and Maths at grade 5 or above. 2022 results will continue our pattern of whole school positive progress 8. The School has a large and strong Sixth form, most progress on to University degree courses, including places at Oxford or Cambridge.
Knights Templar offers a very broad range of opportunity beyond the classroom and part of its attraction and indeed success, is due to the extensive enrichment programme, including a Duke of Edinburgh programme that is recognised as one of the strongest in the South East of England. Student leadership opportunities ensure that the students take responsibility for their own learning environment and for maintaining high standards.
We provide a disciplined, caring, fair and moral environment in which individuality is encouraged and equality of opportunity promoted, in order to allow students to develop personally and socially. There is a mutual respect and good relationships between students and also between staff and students, with the students being given responsibility and feeling valued, whilst knowing that support and advice will always be available when needed. We have, and are recognised for, an excellent Pastoral system which supports and encourages the students’ development.
Our primary focus is to improve standards by constantly improving the quality of Teaching and Learning. We are fully committed to preparing our young people to be thoughtful, capable, responsible citizens of the future. This is a great school, staffed with passionate, inspirational teachers, and is a special place for children to learn and grow.

I am finishing after 16 years of teaching and really happy my final post was here at KTS with some wonderful people, great teachers and many interesting, amusing, crazy, lovely young people.
- Teaching staff member, March 2022A great school with friendly and supportive staff. Students have a real desire to learn and achieve.
- New teacher, September 2023I was really worried about starting in the middle of the year, but Knights Templar have been wonderfully supportive. The school works really hard to make sure its staff have a good work/life balance.
