Job overview

Associate Assistant Headteacher: SENDCo/Alternative Provision

Start date: Jan 2025 or earlier

Salary: L8-L11

Costello is a Good school with Outstanding features – Ofsted, Nov 2021

Are you passionate about teaching and learning?

Are you passionate about your area of expertise and inclusion?

Due to an expansion of SEND provision across Bohunt Education Trust, The Costello School is seeking to appoint a full time SENDCo to lead and continue the excellent inclusive practice across the school. We view the role of the SENDCo as pivotal to the strategic development of the school, and so you will also sit on the Senior Leadership Team as an Associate Assistant Headteacher.

You will be leading a team of experienced Learning Support Assistants, supported by three Provision Leaders and a full time Deputy SENDCo, who is also a qualified Level 7 Access Arrangement Assessor. As the role includes overseeing Alternative Provision, you will work with colleagues involved with this provision across the school, supported by the Trust Director for SEND and colleagues from the Central Team.

As well as one to one and small group interventions for students with SEND, the school provides a Nurture Provision and Wellbeing Centre, both of which have leaders who work closely with the SEND Team to create a holistic and thorough approach to our most vulnerable students.

The successful candidate will enjoy collaboration with a team of experienced leaders, working towards a fully inclusive provision for every child. Full training will be provided, including the NPQ SEND, if the candidate does not currently hold the NASENDCo, therefore it is suitable for a colleague wishing to start their SEND journey with us.

The SEND students at Costello consistently perform above National Average and go on to attend colleges and universities, often coming back to tell us of their adventures and continuing success. Building relationships with our students is a key part of our work, and we are proud of the ethos and culture we have developed with the community.

Closing date for applications: Monday 23rd September 2024, 9.00am.

Applicants are welcome to come and have a tour of the school and meet our team at any point. We reserve the right to interview early for suitable candidates.

Bohunt Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people and requires all staff and volunteers to share and demonstrate this commitment. We are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships . The successful candidate will be subject to pre-employment checks, including enhanced DBS checks (including a self-disclosure form), online/social media checks and satisfactory references.

Enriching Lives

At Costello we believe that every child deserves the very best education and challenge the idea that social context should be a barrier to their academic success. We exist first and foremost to improve the life chances of young people through excellent care, teaching and guidance and believe that the relationship between home and school is paramount. We are here to make sure that our students go on to be successful and happy in what whatever they do.

Who we are

Our culture is built on trust and cooperation between all stakeholders, enabling us to take risks, be honest, ask the difficult questions and support each other when necessary. As leaders of learning we do not sit back and continue to do the same things year in year out, especially if we know we could do better. We invest heavily in CPD and training and have fantastic links with other schools and professional organisations. New ideas and approaches are welcomed with open arms and coaching is used to unlock potential. We work very closely with our ‘family’ of partner schools and are currently the strategic lead for a unique teaching and learning project.

Our Location

Costello is nestled in amongst luscious rolling hills of Hampshire on the outer fringes of the vibrant county town of Basingstoke. Look one way and you have extensive shopping, culture, bars, restaurants and sport. Look the other and you are deep in the countryside with cosy village pubs, beautiful walks, rivers and lots of places to explore.

Where else can you be living the high life of the city one minute and be deep in the heart of the New Forest the next? Served by fantastic fast rail and road links to the South Coast, London and beyond, with the M3 and M4 close by, Basingstoke is the gateway to the south.
