The Role 

BC Academy International School is seeking an inspiring and creative Secondary Art & Design Teacher to join our expanding KS3 program. The successful candidate will foster a passion for visual arts through engaging lessons, innovative projects, and exhibitions. This role involves shaping a comprehensive art and design curriculum while preparing students for GCSE and A-Level Art, as well as organizing community-based art events and school exhibitions.

Applicants must be native English speakers and have at least 3-5 years experience working in a British Curriculum school. This role is suitable for a current Head or Deputy Head of Department, or even an aspiring middle leader.

This role is not suitable for NQT/ECT teachers.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver dynamic and engaging Art & Design lessons aligned with the National Curriculum for England.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum for KS3, with progression into KS4 and KS5.
• Teach a range of artistic techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, digital art, and mixed media.
• Inspire creativity and self-expression by encouraging students to explore their unique artistic voices.
• Guide students in creating individual and collaborative projects for school displays, exhibitions, and competitions.
• Prepare students for GCSE and A-Level Art assessments, including portfolio development and critical analysis.
• Promote an appreciation of global art and design, integrating cultural and historical perspectives.
• Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment that celebrates diversity and creativity.
• Organize and curate school art exhibitions and collaborate with community partners for external showcases.
• Incorporate innovative teaching strategies, including the use of digital tools and technology in art creation.
• Ensure compliance with inspection and accreditation standards, including UAE Ministry of Education and British Schools Overseas (BSO) guidelines.

Essential Requirements:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Art & Design, Fine Arts, or a related field; a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification with QTS.
• Minimum 5 years of teaching experience in a British curriculum school.
• Proven expertise in teaching and assessing Art & Design at GCSE and A-Level.
• Strong skills in various artistic techniques and media, with a passion for encouraging student creativity.
• Ability to organize and lead school-wide art exhibitions and projects.
• Familiarity with the British National Curriculum (KS3-KS5) and relevant assessment frameworks.
• Proficiency in using digital art tools and technology to enhance teaching and student projects.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to plan lessons, projects, and events effectively.

Desirable Requirements:

• Leadership experience, such as Head of Art or involvement in curriculum development.
• A Master’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related disciplines.
• Experience developing new educational phases, such as establishing KS3 or KS4 Art & Design programs.
• Knowledge of inspection frameworks such as BSO, KHDA, or Ofsted, with experience in inspection preparation.
• Additional certifications or training in areas like digital design, photography, or art therapy.
• Experience working in an international, multicultural environment.
• Familiarity with modern pedagogical approaches, such as project-based learning and interdisciplinary art projects.
